It happens to everyone.Sometimes because the club just doesnt have the money, sometimes because the owners say NA BOSS.Typical liverpool fans, everythings some 'feel sorry for us, but we can overcome' sobstorys m f*ck*ng h
we had the money, the owners said no. And my point was that he wasnt backed financially to get his target(s) at that time. equivalent to the owners saying no to the few more million we wanted to use to get those players mentioned.
Yeh as I said you had the money but you weren't allowed, it happensWe couldnt get robbenTottenham couldnt get Arshavin and now look where he isSwings and roundabouts my friend@ Lahi.......dunno where this Arsenal talk has come from, I mentioned them once to compare Hleb to Babel, thats it.
WOAAAAAAAAAAHWrong end of the stickDo you think Rafa would have signed Pennant and Kuyt if he could sign Alves for 8million?Really?He thought they rejected my 12million bid for that much I could get a Dutch goal scorer and a English right wingerEvery single player bar a few has been our second choices. Look at Glen Johnson in this window he will sign for someone else but he was our number 1 target

Portsmouth executive chairman Peter Storrie has said Glen Johnson could leave Fratton Park this summer if the price is right. Johnson has been the subject of interest from Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City already this summer and looks set to end his three-year stay on the south coast.Manchester City were said to have made an £18 million bid for the former Chelsea defender earlier this week, but a fresh offer, thought to be in the region of £15m to £18m, has been made by either Liverpool or Chelsea.Storrie has said that the club would not stand in the way of Johnson's chance to play Champions League football next season. Johnson is said to favour a move to Anfield over a return to Stamford Bridge following a disappointing spell in west London."I've know Glen a long while, from my West Ham days. When I re-signed him (at Portsmouth) we talked things over," Storrie said."He said, 'If one of the big four come in with Champions League football, would you stand in my way?'"I told him I couldn't do that. Providing the deal is right for Portsmouth and Glen then we will look to try and do something in the right way."It is very hard to try and hold people back when they have a chance to play in the Champions League. I accept that."When asked if an offer of between £15million and £18million had been tabled, Storrie replied: "You may not be a million miles away from the mark."The main stumbling block to Liverpool's approach is the financial backing needing to launch a bid. Rafael Benitez has been told he must offload players before he can look to bring in fresh faces this season.Johnson impressed Benitez with his attacking play down the right flank last season and played a key role in England's 6-0 win over Andorra in midweek, but his arrival would not leave the Liverpool manager with the spending capacity to further bolster this squad.Bayern Munich, meanwhile, have also enquired about the 24-year-old but Johnson is thought to prefer to stay in England in the build up to next summer's World Cup finals in South Africa.

Doesn't look good but I'm still hopeful.

Over a month after the date that Alves article was posted, 'Pool signed Pennant, Torres and Kuyt. The Mascherano in January. So the money was there, he just chose to spend it in other areas.

MON should teach us how to invest in fullbacks
He has signed two fullbacks since he's been here, one was Luke Young who has been quality.

Talk of £17 million for him. I know they still owe us money from the crouch deal. Seems like whoever gets him will tie up the deal soon.

Or maybe the owners weren't prepared to back him on signing a right back for 8 million pounds?Bear in mind our record transfer for a defender is 6.5 million....you paid more for Curtis Davies didn't you?

lmaoIf you spend 100 million on a sh*t squad and another team spends 90 million on a championship winning squad who's likely to be better?
This answer would be easy if simplicity and rationale was used by most football fans when trying to argue.

Chelsea Join Brawl For Carlos Tevez Signature - ReportThe latest reports suggest that the Blues plan to hijack Manchester City's £30 million signing 'El Apache'.Having taken too long to offer Carlos Tevez a permanent contract, Manchester United are set to lose the Argentine regardless of what they bid - even with the sale of Cristiano Ronaldo freeing up vast sums of money. After an array of big clubs forwarding their interest in the pint-sized striker, the list had refined itself to just a couple of candidates, with Manchester City being the favourites. However, News of the World now reports that Chelsea have spoken to Kia Joorabchian - Tevez's agent - hopeful that their last-ditch attempt to intervene will see the 25-year-old relocate to London.Tevez himself has admitted that he wishes to stay in the Premier League, but has also stated that he does not wish to uproot his settled family from the North West.In spite of this, it's public knowledge at this point that absurd amounts of money are being thrown around in order to sign the big names, and Roman Abramovich is no stranger to forking out when it is deemed necessary. If Abramovich can match the striker's £100,000-a-week wage demands and improve on the £30 million valuation placed on the player, a move to the Blues may not be completely out of the question for Tevez.
Drogba, Anelka AND Tevez... they'd have the deadliest strike force

SIR ALEX FERGUSON is planning an audacious raid on Liverpool for Kop striking hero Fernando Torres. Armed with the £80 million windfall from Cristiano Ronaldo’s move to Real Madrid, the Manchester United boss is determined to make his own impact in a transfer market which is becoming bloated with money from the big clubs.Liverpool hitman Torres is the shock target, as Sir Alex knows that a bid of around £40m would have to be seriously considered by United’s title rivals who have severe cash problems. If Ferguson could pull off the coup, it would be a slap in the face for Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez, who was involved in a war of words with the Scot during the second half of the season.Liverpool, who paid £20m to bring Torres from Atletico Madrid, would fight tooth and nail to hang on to the Spaniard but a British transfer record offer would give the Anfield boardroom serious food for thought. In the meantime, Ferguson will pursue what could turn out to be more realistic targets – Lyon’s French striker Karim Benzema, Barcelona’s Samuel Eto’o, Atletico Madrid’s Sergio Aguero, Bayern Munich’s Franck Ribery and Valencia’s David Silva.A £20m deal to take Wigan’s wide right sided player Antonio Valencia to Old Trafford will be finalised in the next few days.United believe they will lose Carlos Tevez to neighbours Manchester City but are more confident of fighting off the interest in unsettled defender Nemanja Vidic, who is being monitored by Barcelona and AC Milan.
