LATEST: Matias de Federico - dubbed the new Lionel Messi (so therefore the next Maradona?) - is the subject of a £4.6m bid from an unnamed English club. The 19-year-old, previously linked to Liverpool, is a diminutive forward who had been set to leave Huracan for a move to partner Brazil legend Ronaldo at Corinthians till the English bid came in.

Bordeaux striker Marouane Chamakh has ruled out the possibility of him securing a move to West Ham.Speculation had been mounting of late that the Hammers were looking to land the Moroccan frontman in an effort to ease their attacking problems. With a number of forwards currently sidelined, Gianfranco Zola was known to be keen on Chamakh. He will, however, be unable to bring the African ace on board as the player has distanced himself from a proposed switch to Upton Park."From a sporting point of view, I prefer to stay at Bordeaux than go to West Ham," Chamakh told France 3 Aquitaine. The 25-year-old also told of how he is still "in the process of mourning Arsenal" after intense speculation regarding a move to the Gunners this summer came to nothing. He insists he is now looking forward to spending the 2009/10 campaign in France and helping Bordeaux defend their Ligue 1 title."Instead of joining another Premier League club, I'm going to opt for the very interesting year which Bordeaux is proposing on a sporting level," he said. Finally, he dismissed suggestions that he is planning an imminent trip to London to meet with West Ham officials."This is just nonsense. I was aware of the West Ham rumours recently but it wasn't a priority," he added.

AZ boss Ronald Koeman remains interested, saying: "Elm is a player that we've wanted for a long time."He has known about our interest for a long time. He would have a good future at AZ."
Price is said to be around 6m euros, would be a good signing strengthening the midfield.

Rafael Benítez, the Liverpool manager, will step up his pursuit of much-needed central-defensive reinforcements in the coming days, armed with a budget of no more than £2 million. Despite having recouped at least as much as he has spent in the transfer market this summer, Benítez has been told that there are no significant funds available to supplement his first-team squad and is scouring the bargain basement for a potential recruit. Liverpool scouts were at the Britannia Stadium on Saturday to watch the highly rated Ryan Shawcross score in Stoke City’s 2-0 win over Burnley, but with the 21-year-old valued in the region of £8 million, any player move would only be made possible if at least one member of Benítez’s squad was sold first. Given his paucity of options in central defence, Benítez knew that he had to recruit in that position before Sunday’s 2-1 defeat away to Tottenham Hotspur. That he was forced to send on Daniel Ayala, the 18-year-old, for his Barclays Premier League debut when Martin Skrtel suffered a jaw injury, reinforced this belief. The situation is even more grave given that Daniel Agger’s back injury shows no signs of clearing up and, with the Denmark defender unavailable for the visit of Stoke to Anfield tomorrow, Benítez will have only two senior centre backs available if, as expected, Skrtel is passed fit. Unless Tom Hicks and George Gillett Jr, the Liverpool owners, release the purse strings then Benítez will have to trim his squad to bring in the funds he needs or sign a cheaper centre back, even if he does not meet the Spaniard’s standards. It is all a long way removed from the day, a little more than two years ago, when Gillett gave an interview after Liverpool’s Champions League final defeat by AC Milan in which he said: “If Rafa said he wanted to buy ‘Snoogy Doogy’ we would back him.” Benítez has wheeled and dealed this summer but has made only two significant signings, Glen Johnson, the right back, and Alberto Aquilani, the injured midfield player, for a combined total of about £36 million. This outlay has been more than matched by the proceeds from the sales of Xabi Alonso, Álvaro Arbeloa and Sebastián Leto, as well as Adam Hammill, Jack Hobbs and Paul Anderson, the squad players, for an estimated £38 million. The Liverpool owners argue that the club must be run as a business and made it clear that pay increases handed out to Fernando Torres, Steven Gerrard, Dirk Kuyt, Yossi Benayoun and Agger would be subtracted from the money made available to Benítez.
We are that sinking ship.So pissed that these two fat cunts have made us this way, plumet us in debt and then say we only have £2million to spend. LMAO@ title contenders.
:D What makes you think anything in this article is true?Just last week Benitez more or less confirmed he was looking at Turner, I don't think he dreamed he was going to be able to get Hull to sell for anything in the region of £2 million.
lol
