He was Blairs spin doctor, under Blair reign he moved the party further to the central land in the political ground (closer to the tories), under Brown they went further back to the left. Also Blair and Brown did not like each other for years was always a power sharing issue because Brown felt he was suppose to be the new labour leader before Blair came and won it, which is why he was the most powerful chancellor in history, unlike darling who is just a little lapdog.
