Arsenal Summer Transfer Window

Arsenal defender Gael Clichy is set to move to Manchester City, MirrorFootball understands. The Gunners left back is expected to complete a £7m switch to Eastlands once he has passed a medical and agreed personal terms. The news is a blow to Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger who had hoped to convince the 25-year-old to stay and sign a new contract. But with just one year left on his current deal, the club were reluctant to risk losing him for nothing next summer.Liverpool were also keen on signing the Frenchman and reportedly had a £5m bid turned down earlier this month. The move also raises question marks over the future of Aleksander Kolarov at Eastlands. The Serbian joined the club last summer for £16m from Lazio but has failed to make the position his own.Clichy joined the Gunners from French side Cannes in 2003 when he was just 18.He became the first-choice left-back in 2006 when Ashley Cole moved to Chelsea.

Well Rosicky for me, has become like a 'ball-retention' midfielder but playing in advanced position, lol, which is no good.TBH, very much like Nasri, he plays in a position or in a 'role' that doesn't suit his strengths, and being a proper playmaker, there aren't enough players ahead of him that like to be outlets i.e. Walcott, RVP (moreso now, than in previous seasons). Not saying we should use him in more than a squad rotation role, but for me, he knows the club, has experience, has a good work ethic & has ability & should keep him around.

Gibbs will be a better fullback than Clichy
Why do you believe this?
'Cos Clichy cannot defend. His positional play is non-existant.
You're exaggerating./Gibbs, whilst showing promise, hasn't given any evidence yet to suggest he will be a better full-back than Clichy./Let me make a point to suggest that it's always harder to judge defenders on an individual basis because essentially, you're only as good as the defensive unit you play in. A lot of it comes to down to how much emphasis the coach plays on the defence, the organisation, the tactical/positional emphasis, etc which we all know isn't Arsene Wenger's strong point.

I was of that opinion but I havent properly watched Vermaelen at left back so Im not sure. Taking into account what you said about Arsene/Arsenal not putting empahsis on defence (unlike the teams you mentioned) I dont know if it would work so well.

Depends on the way we are going to play this season. If we play the same system (which is likely) I think his skillset will be better suited to CB or even DM. With our fullbacks last season being our outlet alot of the time I dont see Vermaelen being that left back thats going to get to the byline and cross or pull it back. If we get some good CBs it would improve us defensively, but again I havent really seen him at LB which is probably why im not as certain anymore.
