one thing ive wondered though..

if we evolved from monkeys, why are there still monkeys about? surely they all would have evolved along with us?

We didn't evolve from Monkeys though which is a common misconception, Humans evolved from more Ape like animals, higher up in the chain.

We split from our closest living relative the Chimpanzee.

Look at the relationship between monkeys, humans and chimps as cousins.

You can have many cousins from 1 grandfather, the grandfather would be the most recent common ancestor of all of us (don't ask me the name now).

The Grandfather no longer exists but the children he made branched off into Monkeys, Chimps and Humans etc...
