Are there A Levels that last a year anyone?
fast track mathematics!im sure you could arrange at some kinda special college to do an intense learning thing where you would do both AS and A level in one year

i kno a girl who left school with NO qualifications what so ever, making it kinda impossible for her to find a job...she got pregs...and no she has kids to look after...that aint the oneOf course education is key, but if sum1 is going to drop out from school, college or university..they better have a plan and an idea of what they are gonna do to be a success....Look at Alan Sugar (was just selling on the market, before he made his millions), Bill Gates (university dropout), Micheal Dell (university dropout)..these are sum of the examples of how dropping out of any education institution can do good for sum...but the thing is these people had a PLAN which they followed till the endbut i wud advise any1 to go university to expand their knowledge on whatever career path they want to go down in

one teacher told my class at GCSE. From girls who leave education at 16. 85% are pregnant by 21. I thought it was a shock tactic but it seems it may not be too far from the truth.

10% were probably pregnant in that class as she gave the talk.

i know alot of people who's dropped outta uni, i dont think u always need a degree to get into the profession you want. Im draggin my heels about goin into my 3rd year at the mo, there's too much theory in film course not enough pratical. If anything i dont think i needed to go uni to do what i wanted to do, i just didnt fancy the idea of being a runner fulltime that's all.
your going to have a big shock then
I dont mind running, ive done placements here and there every summer so far, and my practical experience is cool, ima look to start up my own company or something so hopefully it should pan out ok confused4.png

Doing A Levels doesn't have to take two years. In my last year of 6th Form I did Further Maths and French in one year, as well as finish A2 Maths in the first 2 months of 6th Form.
lol this guy gives me jokes...in answer to the question roots yes there are courses where you can cover level 2 and 3 in one year. Its called access to higher eduction but u have to make sure u check with your intended uni to see if they accept QAA qualifications...most doK-dot.1

Depends whats success means to that person.Success might mean a good career in a highly regarded profession.Success might mean having a mortgage by mid 20's and paying it off steadily with a job that might not be so highly regarded but pays the bills no problem for life (ie bus driver).Success might mean running a business well and getting acclaim.Success might mean being a famous singer or athlete.MOST people (FACT) dont even know what they want to do by 20 let alone 18 so University isnt a prerequisite for life at an early age, if at all.Of course for people who KNOW what they want to do, and if their plans need a degree then Uni is the right option. My girlfriend left school with nowt, shes not stupid, just comes from an uneducated home, went college cos her mum told her to, to do some bullshit IT course.I met her in college and made her repeat her English and Maths cos for me thats standard. She left college with my advice and she got a job for a big construction firm as a site secretary when she was 19.Shes had about 4 jobs in 2 1/2 years, each with 1 of the big construction firms, gaining a little more responsibilty and experience with each one.At 21 she decided she wanted to be a Quantity Surveyor, she'd seen what the job entailed cos she used to work closely with QS teams. So she researched it & got an unconditional offer from a Uni because of her experience & the companies she's worked for.She asked her job at the time if they were willing to let her study, they said no, so she left immediately (on my advice) and found an assistant QS position which were willing to let her go to Uni 1 day a week AND pay her tuition fees. She's just turned 22 now, she's in a better position than all her friends who went uni cos they are just finishing, they have no experience, she earns more than all of my friends who have a degree and and she isnt even fully qualified yet, but when she is in a few years (God willing) the world is her oyster.Life is about knowing what you wana do, if that includes Uni then go Uni.If you dont know what you wana do then dont just go Uni for the sake of it.You might figure out later what you wana do and that again may or may not include uni.

I've got so many friends of mine that have decided to drop out of university this year, which has made me feel kinda bad for them as many went to my school and college e.t.c and we've pretty much been together for years~ Is their life after university/college for heads that drop out???~ what are the options available to them???~ Is it the end of the world???(some heads I know have contemplated suicide due to dropping out)~ Can the university/college do more to help students through stressful times during their studies???~ Have you/do you know anyone that have dropped outta uni/college???~ Does retail work await them???~MOST IMPORTANTLY, IS THEIR STILL A CHANCE OF SUCCESS.Hoping for some sensible comments.......
I dropped out of Uni after making a decision that the field of work I wanted to work in was about experience and not grades. I am now 10x more successful then I would have been if I had done my 3 years at Uni.Uni is very very important for certain industrys, but its not the be all and end all.and i've just read what Toney said, which is more or less 100% correct.

That's big. But be weary. This is not the usual route, not every Tom, d*ck and Harry can get these opportunities."MOST people (FACT) dont even know what they want to do by 20 let alone 18 so University isnt a prerequisite for life at an early age, if at all."But most people who go to uni know that whatever job that they're going to get requires a degree.

Tuppatopbrer, "whatever job" could fall into any industry under the sun.Having a completely unrelated degree may not help in getting "whatever job"
Well, I beg to differ. Most high paying jobs require a degree, not a specialised degree. The main professions which require a relevant degree are Medicine, Dentistry and Engineering. You also have the media jobs and journalism etc.But many finance jobs (and law to a certain extent) don't require you to have a degree in Economics or Law. Having a degree doesn't mean that you've done that subject only for three/four years. It shows you have dedication, analytical skills and much more.As I said before uni is still not the be all and end all by any means.

What uni is this? And that IS a good idea, but it ain't about repeating a year (unless you're gonna continue on from whatever year you left off)..

depends on the individual i was at uni years ago but i was moving to fast due to pressure from my dad but then i dropped out cos it just wasnt the right time for menow im back and living good and its blessyou can always go back but if ya doing it to keep up with the jones's youve truly lost in lifeand in my opinion this is the easiest country to make money in if they think on their feet not being a graduate shouldnt be too much major set back and besides most students from what i see that are in their teens aint really READY for uni im glad im a mature student cos so much distractions dont even hit my radar
