1st years - Enjoy yourself.

2nd years - not too much.

3rd years, please get on your grind and make sure you do yourselves proud. Getting a good degree is more important than ever. And don't pass up on those extra curricular activities. Organise some sh*t, even if its socials for your football team, everything looks good on your CV.

Lahi where did you move to?

I'd actually disagree with Mr Q's analysis. You need to grind from day dot. Get ahead early, and stay ahead.

Lecturers are human. Be diligent and they'll always be looking for reasons to give your work good marks.

first year of uni is easier than A level, and will only seem harder because you will leave everything to the last minute

not really

they have to be strict with marking, if everyone in the class deserved firsts the wouldn't all get them because that would make the uni look like they're handing out firsts

Yeah obviously, but what I said still stands. Subconscious upgrading etc. There are academic studies on it. IF you know how to use JStor, do so, then holla at me.

First year is easy, and if you fail it, you need to re-evaluate.

And I say enjoy yourself, I just mean don't do all nighters and stress unecessarily if your first year doesn't count.

I agree on the whole internship thing as well. Work experience is a necessity.

what you mean do so, then holla at you? are you saying I should use it, or are you asking me to find something on it for you?

I can access it from my uni's network but I never got around to sorting out the VPN for my computer to access the network from outside the uni (my halls' network counted as my uni network so I never needed to)

good advice tbh

1st year is just as important as the others, it's better to get into the habit of staying on top of your work from the get go. plus allow paying 3 bags a year and not making the most out of every year, learn your sh*t mayne don't just scrape by and learn enough to pass, excel brother

i'm not saying you can't have fun, you definitely can, the key is maintaining a firm balance between your work and your social life, the partying can easily consume you and make you miss lectures/deadlines

c/s the guys who want to murder the student finance company, moving in tomorrow, starting 2nd year on tuesday. not getting my grant for atleast a month because they some how lost my parent's assessment forms and i had to redo them and send em in again

bunch of twats

on a more positive note, i'm going IN this year f*ck a social life, i'm gonna be caged up in my room with the books. i'm so focused right now i just wanna bang out the next 2 years and get on my money

in all fairness I'm paying 3 bags a year for the title and not the education, making the most of it means getting a first to me, not understanding everything I'm (supposed to be) taught

getting a first and understanding the material goes hand in hand, no?

i also used to think of it as just acquiring the title or a badge so to speak

but really, the abundance of knowledge i'm receiving>>>>the title.

Yeah they go hand in hand.

But thing is half your grade is depending on your essay writing ability. And on your examination handling and presentation. What I'm saying is if I know the whole syllabus inside out but I only get a 2-2 I'm gonna be pissed, its not like I'ma be like "well at least I've got all this knowledge".

And I personally think if I get a first I won't be looking back and thinking "wow I feel great that I got the first, but really its what I learnt that counts" 'cause frankly I don't even remember half the sh*t I learnt in the first year, and I'm always hearing people say they don't use 80% of what they learnt in uni.

Really I'm just being pessimistic 'cause I don't really like my course too much. But as you say, you used to look at it like that, I'll probably change as well, eventually.

Not evurrrrn. I know a guy who got a 1st but he is on the levels of a 2:2/3rd student in the field he studied. True story.

Depends on your character and how potentially skilled you are going INTO the field your studying. My opinion, anyway.

Agreed with what Q said. I wont go in and spoil it too much for you guys but here is my breakdown:

1st year: Make the most of it you f*ckers. Trust me I am jealous right now. This was the best year of my life. Dont f*ck up though, balance your studies and social life CORRECTLY from get go and make sure you pass everything.

2nd year: Is where the proper graft begins. Pressure intensifies as you get to the end of your 1st semester after that its a hard long graft to the finish of the 2nd semester. Pull your weight and you will be fine. Try and finish the year on a 1st, that would leave you in good stead for your 3rd.

3rd year: BOY OH BOY. I doubt you will have much of a social life within Uni (unless your aiming for a 2:2/3rd you can go out and party if you like). THAT is the reality of the final year. 3rd year is a NUTS TING but its well worth it when you get the grade you want (Bait Tip: aim for a 1st and you will either get a high 2:1 or a 1st).

Good luck my sons and daughters (no Gandalf)
