i have to go with anelka here im sorry but everyone apart from man u and chelsea should be going full whack in every competetion that is there only chance of winning something winning league cup > coming 5th(more time) uefa cup place and silverware + your name going down in history > just a uefa cup placeunless you come in the top 4 and build on it by consistantly playing champs league football then winning a cup competation is the next best bet

yeah but you have to appreciate that we are probably 3-4 class players away from seriously troubling the top fourif we had a decent run in uefa cup like everton or boro have done/did and won the league cup at the expense of our league position we still wouldnt be able to sign them.even liverpool as an example, they havent been challenging the top 2 spots in the PL recently and they havent been able to attract the likes of Malouda and Vidic. What chance do we have finishing midtable with a cup and a decent run in europe of attracting the top players - when top class players want as a minimum champions league football.i'm very pissed off with the league cup defeat last night, and i would have loved to have won it - but the fact is finishing 5th would be better long term.and tbh, it was just a bad day at the office, MON went for it - young, carew, barry, petrov started, they scored with their only shot on goal, harewood missed a one on one and a header and barry missed a one on one.they sat deep and we struggled to unlock them cos we were knackered.he didnt get it wrong as such, he played as strong team as he could (nrc and gabby were absolutely knackered from 3 games in 5 days) and we f*cked it up.the reason villa fans arnt as seemingly bothered about losing is, not because we think we're gonna do anything major this season, but because we've seen the strides we've made this season and can see the bigger picture.

more players would join if you won the league cup/uefa cup then if you finished 5thwho got rejected by everyone this summerand who signed everyone this summerone come 5th and the other had a good uefa cup run and won the league cupyh cors villa are improving but say you finnish consistantly in the top 6 for next 5 years couple champs league appearances and no trophies... would you rather that then having yo yo league positions for 5 years and couple trophies?

Finishing 5th aint a sporting achivementIf you would rather be crowned 5th best than winning the League cup then theres something wrong with youIts been 12 years since ur team won anything lol do you know what that means? In the last 12 years ur club has competed and FAILED each season, thats the League Cup, Premiership, FA Cup & the UEFA Cup (some seasons) lol
To be honest its all relative Obviously if one of the top 4 finished 5th it wouldn't be an achievement but apart from that any other club would view it as one

most if not all of the spurs signings this summer came due to ramos' reputation as a managerdidn't dos santos say that in an interviewbentley said the managers intentions were what made him want to join spursafter all, he has had continental success in recent years and done well in 1 of the top leagues in europei don't think modric, pavlyuchenko, dos santos ETCand any future signings, checked or will check to see if spurs won the carling cup in 08and the carling cup is chelsea's to lose in all honesty, has been for a few years now

very true. dont see how they consistently play their first team in it and yet their fans act like they should do that. their reserves are not amazing we beat them today but they aint shockingly bad
