Barclays Premier Reserve LeagueThe Stobart Stadium, 18 DecemberEVERTON 1Agard (3)MANCHESTER UNITED 1Manucho (55)18/12/2008 20:42, Report by Steve BartramReserves: Everton 1 United 1Manucho bagged his first goal since moving to United as the Reserves came from behind to draw with Everton on Thursday evening. The Angolan striker powerfully headed the Reds level shortly after half-time, after Kieran Agard had slid the hosts into the lead after just three minutes.A slow start was perhaps predictable for a United side without a competitive match for exactly a month, but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side gradually gained a foothold in the match. The lively Manucho, operating as a lone striker, demonstrated his neat touch and powerful shot after 12 minutes, but home goalkeeper John Ruddy was able to touch it wide.United continued to carry the greater menace, but it took an outstanding last-ditch challenge from David Gray to prevent Agard from doubling his side's lead before the interval.Within two minutes of the restart, United were within a whisker of drawing level. Matt James' inch-perfect raking pass released Danny Drinkwater, but the midfielder's lob was just inches wide of Ruddy's post. The Reds were all over the hosts by now, with Manucho invariably involved, and it was no surprise when the Angolan powerfully headed home Magnus Eikrem’s superb cross.Fabio, twin brother of Rafael, made his return from a shoulder injury as a second-half substitute, but it was fellow sub Cameron Stewart who almost had the greater impact, drawing a smart save from Ruddy with a left-footed drive and then blazing over from close range.United continued to call the tune, and were only denied a dramatic injury-time victory when Ruddy made a stunning fingertip save to deny Drinkwater. There was still time for Ruddy to be called into action again, and he had to react sharply to turn away an effort from Tom Cleverley on the edge of the area.Late anguish then, for United, who came close to snatching all three points, but the Reds’ surging finish will still provide festive cheer for Solskjaer and assistant Warren Joyce.United: Woods; Gray, C Evans, Chester, Derbyshire; Eikrem (Fabio 63), James, Drinkwater, Hewson (Stewart 63), Cleverley; Manucho.Subs not used: Devlin, Norwood, Brady.
