Marouane Chamakh completes move to Arsenal

Arsene Wenger is set to axe Marouane Chamakh in January - just 18 months after he was billed as one of the most coveted players in Europe.

Arsenal will listen to offers for the Morocco international once the transfer window re-opens after losing patience with the striker.

Chamakh arrived in north London from Bordeaux in July last year with a reputation of being one of the deadliest marksmen on the continent.

The fact he was available on a free transfer made him a target for a string of clubs and Arsenal's success in securing his services was viewed as quite a coup.

But after a promising start to his career in England - which saw him score 11 goals in his opening 22 games - his form has slumped alarmingly.

Chamakh has scored just twice in 31 appearances for the Gunners - one of which came in an FA Cup clash against Leyton Orient last season.

And Wenger has told senior members of his backroom staff that he is ready to sell the striker after losing faith in the 27-year-old.

Chamakh still has two-and-half-years to run on his contract, which is worth in the region of £55,000-per-week.

And despite Wenger's decision to offload Chamakh, Arsenal's financial structure will see the club demand a considerable return on the forward.

After losing Nicklas Bendtner to Sunderland on a season-long loan, Wenger is already short of forward of options.

And his decision to offload Chamakh could see Wenger enter the market for more firepower in the New Year. A goalscoring run between now and January could see Wenger have a change of heart - but as it stands Chamakh's Arsenal career is drawing to a close.

80th minute, 0:0, away from home - logically - he should be the answer. he was always been limited (those who watch Ligue 1 know) & it was obvious he was gonna be a plan b player like that for us. I don't recall many occasions where he was available & we needed to change the plan like that, he came on & he flopped miserably. like pointed already, it's more of a case where we don't use him how he has to be used, rather than him being too shit to work with imo.

The main problem with Chamakh is he's joined us when Robin van Persie has stayed fit.

Chamakh was only ever suppose to challenge/rotate with Bendtner. You lot are forgetting Arshavin the previous seasons spent months playing centre forward for us, smh and Wenger knew Bendtner would have to have an op straight after the World Cup.

I have no problem with the signing but having now watched him regularly, for me if he's gonna lead our line or be expected too, he has to play every week. Otherwise he's an sub/rotated player that has to play alongside van Persie rather than to replace van Persie. That said I can't excuse his form.

You only need to go couple pages back, lads.

Good signing imo.

One of at least four hopefully.

Anything but Arshavin in the middle again.

Well it's a free so that is one good sign (although I'm sure signing on fees etc are high), good deal now go out and buy!

Suttin to smile about

Good signing.

Will show Eduardo & B52 how to play upfront, solo.

Sick.

Good signing. 3 more ATLEAST.

Its nice its nice

Now we can focus on other targets

good signing.

looks like a prick though.

If I was a premiership defender I would be SHOOK right about now...

Very good signing

will come good under wenger

Very very very happy about this, will compliment our style so sick.

+ This got negged pretty bad

might as well change his name to willem dafoe... he pays homage to him often enough

platoon.jpg

takes an eternity to get a shot off and when he does it's usually piss poor

link up is pretty good though

sure people would POS if that was said now.

Cnt really judge him after 11 apps

Good link up play, good with his back to goal, good in the air, decent back up striker when ever1 is fit, we could do worse (EggNog)

Looks 2be a poor finisher so far

All his goals have come against the shit teams or easy home games..only scored 1 away from home against a dreadful Belgrade side down to 10men

In the real tests Blackburn away, Sunderland away, Chelsea away he was missing

He looks 2be one of those where if its going well he plays well but doesnt look like he can dig in if its going rough

He was a disgrace on Saturday diving again & Steven Carr gifted him that goal

I wouldnt get 2 carried away, I could name championship strikers who would have the same tally or more playing in our attacking side

/

This had me dying, never gets old.

all the strikers instinct of a spoon.
