Group AGermany overcame the challenge of Belgium, while Turkey began their campaign with a comfortable 3-0 victory over minnows Kazakhstan at Astana Arena.A lone Miroslav Klose goal gave Germany the ideal start to their Euro 2012 qualifying campaign with victory over Belgium in Brussels.A defensive lapse by the hosts in the 51st minute allowed Germany's Thomas Muller to find Klose unmarked just inside the penalty area and the marksman made no mistake.Turkey earned their win in more comprehensive style as they brushed aside Kazakhstan.Goals from Arda Turan (24), Hamit Altintop(26) and Nihat Kahveci (76) wrapped up a simple night.Group BRussia made no mistake in their away meeting with Group B minnows Andorra as they wrapped up a 2-0 win in their opening Euro 2012 qualifier. Two goals, one in either half, from Pavel Pogrebnyak secured the three points at Estadi Comunal on Friday evening. The Stuttgart striker opened the scoring in the 14th minute and then made sure of the victory with a 65th minute penalty after Maltese referee Marco Borg had pointed to the spot.Earlier in the day in Group B, Republic of Ireland were made to work hard for a 1-0 victory in Armenia.Keith Fahey's first international goal in the 76th minute earned Giovanni Trapattoni's team the win.Slovakia recorded a dramatic 1-0 win over Macedonia at Pasienky stadium in Bratislava.Filip Holosko scored the winner in injury-time before the final whistle after Vance Sikov had been sent off for Macedonia in the 85th minuteGroup CItaly survived a scare as they came from a goal down against Estonia, while Serbia made light work of Faroe Islands in their Euro 2012 qualifying Group C opener as they recorded a 3-0 victory. The Italians were forced to work harder than they would have liked to escape from Tallinn with a 2-1 victory.Sergei Zenjov had given Estonia a shock first-half lead against the 2006 World champions. But second-half strikes from Antonio Cassanoand Leonardo Bonucci allowed coach Cesare Prandelli to begin his competitive reign at the Italy helm with a win.Serbia had no such concerns as they swept aside underdogs Faroe Islands in their opening match.Birmingham new-boy Nikola Zigic completed the scoring in Torshavn in injury-time before the final whistle, with Danko Lazovic (13) and Dejan Stankovic (18) having scored before half-time.Corry Evans' second-half goal helped Northern Ireland make a dream start to their qualifying campaign as they beat Slovenia 1-0.Group DLaurent Blanc may have ushered in a new era for France, but their problems show no signs of abating.Les Bleus suffered a shock defeat at Stade de France on Friday as they began their Euro 2012 qualifying campaign in the worst possible style.Elsewhere in Group D, Bosnia-Herzegovina hit the ground running and Albania picked up an impressive point on the road in Bucharest.France, following their shambolic display at the 2010 World Cup, would have been hoping for a reversal in fortune upon their return to competitive action, but their woes continued against Belarus. The hosts toiled to no avail in front of an expectant home support and looked to be heading towards a dour goalless draw as time ebbed away. However, Sergey Kisliak's 86th minute strike condemned Blanc's side to a shock defeat and piled further pressure on an already under-fire squad.Romania will also be disappointed with their slow start to the campaign, having been held 1-1 by Albania. They must have thought they had stolen the points when Bogdan Stanou stepped off the bench to grab an 80th minute opener.Albania, though, refused to lie down and hit back two minutes from time through a substitute of their own, in the form of Gjergi Muzaka. All of that means that Bosnia-Herzegovina currently occupy top spot in the group after they hammered Luxembourg 3-0.All of the goals came in the opening quarter-of-an-hour, with Senijad Ibricic (6), Miralem Pjanic (12) and Eden Dzeko (15) doing the damage.Group EHolland claimed an expected success in their opening Euro 2012 qualifier as Klaas-Jan Huntelaar scored a hat-trick in a 5-0 victory over San Marino.Ruud van Nistelrooy and Dirk Kuyt were also on target at Stadio Olimpico for the 2010 World Cup finalists, who host Finland next week.Kuyt opened the scoring on 16 minutes from the penalty spot before Huntelaar, who joined Schalke from AC Milan this summer, netted his first of the game.Huntelaar went on to seal a trio of goals and then Van Nistelrooy wrapped up the three-point haul in the dying embers of the game on his return from international retirement.Ten-man Finland slipped to a 2-0 defeat to Moldova in their opening Euro 2012 qualifier.Finland were forced to play the majority of the match with a player deficit after former Liverpool centre-back Sami Hyypia was sent off in the 36th minute.Moldova made their advantage in personnel count in the second half as a 69th minute goal from Alexander Suvorov was followed five minutes later by a goal from Anatolie Doros.Sweden defeated Hungary 2-0 in Solna, where Pontus Wernbloom scored both of the goals.AZ Alkmaar man Wernbloom netted in the 51st and 73rd minute, respectively, in a match refereed by English official Martin Atkinson.Group FCroatia are up and running on the road to Euro 2012, while Greece know they must do better.Group F looks like being keenly contested, with any number of sides harbouring ambitions of snatching a top-two finish.Croatia, though, appear to be strong favourites to take top spot, with a 3-0 win over Latvia on Friday seeing them put down an early marker.Mladen Petric put them on their way after 42 minutes in what could have been a tricky trip out on the road.Ivica Olic then added a second on 51 minutes, before Darjo Srna put the seal on a comprehensive success eight minutes from time.Elsewhere, Greece were held to a 1-1 draw on home soil by Georgia.A point would not have been what the Greeks had hoped for ahead of kick-off, but it could have been a lot worse.Alexander Iashvili handed the visitors a shock lead with just three minutes on the clock, but that effort was cancelled out when Nikos Spyropoulos spared the hosts' blushes on 72 minutes.Group HPortugal made hard work of their Euro 2012 qualification opener, as they were held in an eight-goal thriller.Elsewhere, Norway came from behind away in Reykjavik to take three points from their first Group H encounter.Portugal failed to see off a plucky Cyprus outfit on home soil, with a topsy-turvy contest eventually finishing 4-4.The visitors got off to a dream start when they opened the scoring inside three minutes through Stathis Aloneftis, but they were pegged back five minutes later by Hugo Almeida.Michael Constantinou restored Cyprus' lead on 11 minutes, but again Portugal levelled courtesy of Raul Meireles' 29th minute strike. The hosts went ahead for the first time on the night when Danny notched five minutes into the second half, but the drama was not finished yet.Giannakis Okkas stepped off the bench to restore parity on 56 minutes, but saw Manuel Fernandes cancel out that effort three minutes later. That was the way things stayed until two minutes from time when Andreas Avraam pounced to ensure a gripping contest ended all square.Norway are also up and running after seeing off Iceland 2-1.Queens Park Rangers striker Heidar Helguson fired Iceland in front on 38 minutes, but they were unable to hold on to that lead.Fulham's Brede Hangeland scored his first international goal on 59 minutes to bring the Norwegians back into the tie and Mohamed Abdellaoui snatched the spoils when he struck 15 minutes from the end.
