stacksbranning Posted November 13, 2013 Report Share Posted November 13, 2013 Rivaldo is underrated Big game player, performed in domestic club level, champions league level, international level at not one but two world cups, a copa, and has one of the best big-game individual performances ever (vs Valencia), not to mention world player of the year, ballon d'or etc I do not hear his name mentioned regularly enough when greats are being discussed It's a disrespect I agree with this but i think its simply due to the fact that he only had like four great years . Also he was somewhat of a late bloomer with regards to showing his world class ability . But i Cant rate Messi / Cristiano over the likes of Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, Rivaldo, Zidane etc.... Messi is better than Zidane. People need to know that Messi, Pele, R9 and Maradona were phenoms, they were alien players at their respective time, Zidane isn't, he is a hugely gifted player up there with the best players in the last 30 years, but he falls in the same bracket as Platini, Laudrup and Zico. Because i think Cruyff had more strings to his bow, someone already said in this thread, he was a playmaker, a prolific marksman, etc. He was very much like Messi and Pele in that he could combine creativity and ingenuity with a ruthless edge, thats the only reason i'll put him ahead of Zidane, he was several players in one, Zidane for all his creative genius was never prolific, Cruyff had that genius while also combining it with a 1 in 2 goal rate, and he shone on every stage possible as well. He has but I'm more referring to why Zidane shouldn't be considered all time great.
