MOURINHO APPOINTED

Posted on: Mon 03 Jun 2013

Chelsea Football Club is delighted to announce the appointment of Jose Mourinho as First Team Manager.

Mourinho has signed a four-year contract and will return to the club where he won two Premier League titles, an FA Cup and two League Cups between 2004 and 2007.

Ron Gourlay, Chelsea FC Chief Executive, said: 'I am delighted to welcome Jose back to Chelsea. His continued success, drive and ambition made him the outstanding candidate.

'It is our aim to keep the club moving forward to achieve greater success in the future and Jose is our number one choice as we believe he is the right manager to do just that.

'He was and remains a hugely popular figure at the club and everyone here looks forward to working with him again.'

Since leaving Chelsea in 2007, the 50-year-old Portuguese has worked in Italy with Inter and Spain with Real Madrid, lifting three league championships, two domestic cups and the Champions League.

Originally appointed at Stamford Bridge in 2004, immediately after winning Europe's top competition with Porto, he quickly achieved success securing his first trophy for the club as early as February 2005, when we beat Liverpool 3-2 after extra-time in Cardiff to win the Carling Cup. We went on to win the league that season with a record 95 points and a record low of just 15 goals conceded in 38 games.

The club celebrated consecutive championships in our centenary 2005/06 season, secured with a 3-0 win over Manchester United in late April, and the next campaign we were able to add the Carling Cup with victory over Arsenal in Cardiff, and the FA Cup when United were beaten again in the first senior game at the new Wembley.

Mourinho departed by mutual consent in September 2007, going on to develop his already impressive CV by winning the Serie A twice in two years and the Champions League with Inter, before joining Real Madrid in 2010, where he lifted both La Liga and the Copa Del Rey, ending his stay in Spain yesteday.

He brings three coaching staff with him in Rui Faria, Silvino Louro and Jose Morais. Each carries the title of Assistant First Team Coach and will work alongside current first team staff Steve Holland, Christophe Lollichon and Chris Jones.

The new manager will be officially presented in a press conference at Stamford Bridge on Monday 10 June, further details of which will follow in due course.

Barca vice president talked that smack

It is not good for English football. Chelsea maybe think they had a good time from him in the past, but you will see the real Mourinho now.

"If he behaves like he did in Spain it will only be an unhappy relationship. A disaster. And at his age he is not going to change.

"My position is not because he was the coach of a rival, but because of who he is and what he did. His three years in Spain he only creates disagreements, arguments. There is nothing positive he brings.

"You can learn good things about life from watching people in football, or the circus, or the opera. There was nothing he brought that was good. There was no positive balance. I cannot see anything good about him. Not one thing. In sporting terms, maybe I am not the person to ask. But in cultural terms, he was a disaster.

"Apart from his aggression to the coach of Barca, the ambience he creates everywhere he goes, the relations with the players, with the press, are absolutely terrible. I am happy that he is leaving. And so is everyone in Spanish football.

"I am just glad he has gone. I am not interested in him. Go leave, goodbye."

Everton have reached an agreement with Wigan over compensation for manager Roberto Martinez, who is expected to hold further talks with the Toffees.

The Spaniard, 39, is thought to have been Everton's first choice to replace David Moyes, who signed a six-year contract to manage Manchester United.

Martinez said last month he would leave Wigan after four years at the helm.

"Bill Kenwright [Everton chairman] and myself have agreed a deal," Wigan chairman Dave Whelan told BBC Sport.

quite possibly the worst news ever. can see them finishing above us again if they invest

Jupp Heynckes has said that he will not manage a club in 2013-14. Bayern Munich's treble-winning coach held a press conference in the city on Tuesday, when he was thanked for his extraordinary success over the past 12 months, although he stopped short of retiring and stated that he needs a break.

The 68-year-old said: "This year has been tough. I didn't have any holiday after we lost the Champions League final last season [against Chelsea]. I have noticed, especially in the last few weeks, that I have reached an age where it takes longer to recover. It was extremely stressful.

"Other clubs that were interested in hiring me after this season. Rich clubs, where money doesn't matter … such clubs don't interest me."

Heynckes, whose Bayern side won the league by a record-margin of 25 points, beat Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League final and also won the German Cup, said he will now walk his talk, eat at restaurants and listen to music.

It had been speculated that he would either retire or possibly replace José Mourinho at Real Madrid. In the end he did not say that he is retiring, just that he is taking a break. "I personally am not in favour of final decisions. I am 68 and there is life outside the job. I want to enjoy my life," he said, before adding of his successor: "I wish Pep Guardiola the best. I rate him."
