I feel sorry for Bale.

 

He was never as good as was being made out in the first place i.e. Top 3-5 in the world, better than ADM, Hazard, Muller, Robben, Neymar etc.

 

What he is a TOP player, who is not too far off world class (I'm aware everyone has a different idea of what that standard is) but irrespective of his awesome striking ability, exceptional physical capability, talismanic match temperament & so on, there are glaring weaknesses to his game that aren't compensated for i.e. an over-reliance on his pace/acceleration to beat markers, average DRIBBLING, lack of combination play in tight areas, decision-making under duress.

 

The hype was never justified but if a player is going to be exalted to such a pedestal, than he better come through. Unfortunately, he never put himself to that standard. Fans with the usual hyperbole & zero sense of contextual thinking did.
