Successful how ? Trophies?  What is it bar a reasonable minimum 4th place finish ( whilst restructuring a club)  , what is it you think he has been hired to do at United?

Imo, at board level he won't be judged on trophies. He will be judged on what he has been brought in to do. Leave the club in a healthier state for the next manager as he was never hired to be a long serving trainer.

Clubs go to Van Gaal cause they know for all his flaws , when it comes to starting a new cycle he is successful whether he's the one to get the trophies with the team he starts to build , or not.

My post was more a general musing than anything else, but yeah I'm on about trophies. I might be addicted to gambling, but even I don't watch enough football to pick up on all the subtle nuances of each club's season. I've just mentioned a general trend of club managers winning more trophies in their younger years and tailing off as they get older (outside of the guys I was able to name).
