Ok cool, so I got back yest. It was my first visit.

Firstly - wrap up warm if you're going in Winter or Autumn. Northern Europe is cold and wet. Take decent waterproof creps, gloves and a hat if you have a short trim like me.

Secondly (People from major urbanised areas need not read) don't be particularly un-street wise in the city centre. Watch out for pickpockets and people trying to shot you hard drugs.

And now for the lowdown.

Smoke o'Clock

There are obviously shitloads of Coffee shops in the Dam, but a few just aren't that cosy and are just full of monged tourists. They aim themselves at the tacky novely market. Some better ones have a layer of security where they buzz you into the smoke room after buying some ganj. It does help keep the weirdos out. We went to a place called Best Friends where they had this, and there were a wide range of people in there. One was a white British couple in their 30s. Got talking to them and they like coming to the Dam because they can chose to smoke specific varieties.

Anyway, in the RLD there are also plenty of pubs that let you bring your own ganj and smoke it on premises. These places clearly put a sign in the window usually saying "You can smoke here too" next to a ganj leaf. These pubs are especially cool as you can have a beer and a spliff whilst watching di football.

Some of best Coffeeshops made it into November's Timeout Amsterdam. Here are some photos I took of the pages for you f*ckers. The second page is of sex shops I think.

I'd also recommend actually drinking some of the coffee or the herbal teas in the coffee shops whilst having a smoke. The coffee in Amsterdam is excellent and makes a great accompaniment to a relaxing smoke.

Red Light Districts

Did you know that Amsterdam technically has 3 red light districts? I've taken the liberty of crudely circling them on this map bellow:

The main Red Light District is probably the only place worth visiting. The other two are smaller, and one of them is a way from the centre in De Pijp.

The RLD is worth a walk around a night, just because you'll never see anything like it anywhere else. Men haggling with women in their underwear in cold winder weather over prices for sex. And walking around at night is like being in a free strip bar.

Food:

Avoid eating in the RLD. We had a lamb shawarma first night from a shop in the RLD. As soon as I finished eating it I saw a mouse running along behind the elephant leg. Not cool, considered making myself sick. Go further west slightly or venture into the Canal Ring for some good food. A definite for breakfast is Pancakes! Ate this on Tuesday morning:

History and Art

There is some amazing free art on display in disused shop windows in the Dam. Have a smoke and wonder round. I swear to god I now have a new appreciation of art after seeing some under the influence.

Would also recommend Anne Frank's house, which is very fascinating and won't actually take that long to get around.

And last but not least... The hemp and hashish museum. This is actually really educational and shows you all of the good that could come of humans embracing the plant a bit more.

mate, id been drinking most the day, had a couple zoots here and there but quite light ones tbh, got in from the ajax game, got into bed wacked on the dutch comedy central (everyone whos been to dam knows how sick this channel is) and rolled it up in a normal cigarette rizzla smoked it and the buzz i got was incredible, rolled another instantly smoked that then walked round the city center for an hour sooo lean but buzzed as f*ck, went back and smoked it till the early hours. incredible.

plus basjoe has become my favourite coffeeshop, can smoke outside it by the canal, chocolope,sour diesel, basjoe special.... incredible.

Does anyone have any job links good websites to find a job in the netherlands (retail, admin, au pair, i'm not too fussed as long as the pay is cool)

I'm thinking I wanna live there for a couple months next year if I like i'ma stay longer. 

 

As I cant speak dutch (i'ma start learning next year) I hope this isn't gonna be difficult.
