The Official Manchester United Thread

Since October 1937 when we played Sheffield Wednesday Manchester United have featured a youth player in every game except one!

A run of 3,516 competitive matches.

The run was from October 1937 to 1st of May 2011 when we played Arsenal away and no youth player started or came off the bench...although John O'Shea was on the bench.

The remaining handful of games also featured youth players.

Over those 73 years, a player who had come through our system between 15-18 and not played for anyone else featured at some point in every competitive game.

What with these transfers happening how do you expect the team to shape up next coming season?

I doubt the back line will see major changes even with the signing of Jones, I expect Brown to be gone (but not O'shea). Ferdinand and Smalling will alternate according to Ferdi's fitness, and I dont expect to see much of Jones unless there's an injury. Rafael & Fabio to alternate according to form. I dont want to see De Laet or O'shea.

In the middle I expect Gibbo will go with Wes Brown to Sunderland. I don't know if Cleverly is back so no comment there. I'm curious as to how the middle will work, I assume we'll play Valencia and Young on each wing until Nani finds some form. Anderson impressed towards the end of the season would like to see him regularly and less of Carrick. Park to feature as much as he ever did. But where do Giggs & Fletch fit in? Young to take set-pieces.

Up front I haven't the foggiest, except that I dont want to see Michael Owen. Rooney's obviously a fixture will SAF juggle Berbs & Chica as he did last season, will Berbs even be here? Heard someone say Macheda will be here, in which case there's no point in bringing in Welbeck yet. If on top of that we buy Sanchez? What then?
