Movies I've watched recently-Moon - Sorry to harp on about this, but it's f*ck*ng masterful and has been criminally overlooked. Fantastic movie in all respects. Sam Rockwell is a f*ck*ng badman. Riveting piece about the cold, empty loneliness of space, and its effect on the human mind. Resisted the urge to descend into a glitzy sci-fi SFX wankfest, and resisted the urge to cram a contrived plot twist down your throat. Clever, troubling, intriguing, unsettling, captivating. Deep film. Download and watch.Inglorious Basterds - Self-indulgent, but fun. The set pieces (farmhouse, basement, cinema) were fantastic - QT piles on the tension like few others. Pitt and Fassbender were hilarious. Christoph Waltz stole the movie, but on the 2nd watch, I thought

Landa's defection was pretty rushed and ingenuine

. Still a nice little story - not the epic masterpiece it was hyped as, but a cool subversion of WW2 concepts and its place in the popular consciousness. A strong QT offering. Funny People - Good premise, but oooverly long. When Sandler and Rogen are pulling their weight its compelling dramedy, and there's lots of genuinely funny bits, but theres a large section in the middle which was uninteresting and unnecessary (

the sequence at the chick's house

) Sandler wasn't a total misfire as a casting choice, but I can't help but suspect other actors could've pulled it off better. Hurt Locker - Potent war film - intense, brutal, nervy, atmospheric. Great direction and cinematography. I could feel the oppressive desert heat, and the paranoia and tension of the troops was tangible. Brilliantly unsentimental portrayal of soldiers, and their motivations. Anthony Mackie and Jeremy Renner surprised the hell outta me. Broken Embraces - Just got back from this. Suitably ambitious Almodovar story, spanning many years and characters, but the story wasn't as compelling as his top-tier flicks (

and he mischievously keeps hinting at a twist which never comes

). He gives a deft treatment to some familiar themes - stormy romance, delayed revelation, grief, betrayal, dysfunction - and the visuals are gorgeous to the point of garishness. Lluis Homar holds it down, and Penelope Cruz is majestic, but I didn't feel the characters were as striking and memorable as in his more celebrated work. Not one of PA's crowning achievements, but an enjoyable watch. Wavesurfer, Stat, or anyone else seen it yet?

I'm still pretty excited about seeing it though. Also, I agree with yr earlier praise of Sam Rockwell. Guy is ridiculously underrated. He's been terrific in everything I've seen him in.

Is it bad, that I LIKE Jude Law's 'Alfie' more than Michael Caine's?
like em both tbh. as equals.and anything with Sienna Miller is a win in my notepad.
TBH if you rate the re-make Alfie anywhere near the original you're an idiotOnly thing that's better is Ms Miller
the re make is NOT better than the original, jude law's a weak actor man
TBH, if you saw the remake & didn't know it was a remake, you would rate it...I didn't say it was necessarily better, I just liked it more. If that makes sense.

Saw broken embraces last night really enjoyed it penople cruz's screen presence kept drawing me away from the subtitles hot chick. Loved the hybrid of genres the noir and melodrama elements to film but must say i was slightly disappointed with the way it ended. For me it pulled it down to a 7/10. Also there was some parts of the narrative that was too obvious the audience had noticed it already without it having to be spelt out.

Watched "The Damned United", really enjoyed it. One quote that did come true was "Let's see where we are next year, let's see where we are in 5 years" then you look Clough ended up king of europe and Revie well it all went tits up.It really showed a real personal vendetta he had against Don, soon as he took over everything had to change from the office to the personal assistant etc, the deleted scenes made me laugh, esp the rant when he is losing 1-0 to Leeds at home. Really ripped into Colin Todd, brilliant!Micahel Sheen did a great job and has this knack of being put in to this these roles and pulling them off so well.
