Liverpool's current shirt contract with Adidas will not be extended as the club's performances on the pitch have not matched the sportswear giants' requirement.

Instead, the Reds' new kit for next season will be sponsored by Boston-based Warrior Sports, which will last for five years.

According to The Telegraph newspaper, the Anfield outfit were suggested to have voluntarily ended the agreement with Adidas, who are the world's second biggest sporting goods manufacturer.

But Adidas CEO Herbert Hainer has denied it and explained it was Liverpool who have failed to match their expectations on the field.

"The gap between their performance on the field and what the number should be is not in balance," he told Bloomberg news:

"Then we said, ‘OK we will not do it'. That's the end of the story. It all depends on the success and the effort and the popularity, the exposure on TV, revenue you can generate by merchandising.

"This all has to be brought in line between what you offer and what you get. We thought that what Liverpool were asking and what they were delivering was not in the right balance."

On the positive note, Standard Chartered have agreed on a record £81.5 million to have their logo printed on the Liverpool shirt for an extended four years while other sponsors including Turkish tourism have jumped on board too.

Last month it was reported that Liverpool had secured a £25 million kit deal with Warrior Sports, a subsidiary of New Balance, from the 2012/13 season, though this has not been officially confirmed. This is an example of the synergy that FSG can bring to the party, as Warrior recently announced a deal to manufacture kit for the Red Sox. The deal would more than double the amount received from Adidas, who currently pay £12 million a year. Although the press reported this as a record for English football, it is actually slightly lower than Manchester United’s Nike deal, which had a contractual step-up from £23.3 million to £25.4 million this season, but it’s still a mighty impressive increase.

pmsl indeed

The only positive from yesterday is that it seems like the penny has dropped for Kenny judging by his post match interview, certain players simply aren't good enough and don't have the mentality to play for us.

If he swallows his pride and accepts he got it wrong we can salvage something of this season.

R.I.P Alex Jarmay who was killed in london after having travelled down for the final, terrible to hear.

think people are completely missing DCs point tbh

Sounds nuts if you look at it as him simply saying winning the carling cup will bring us europes top players. He's not trying to say top players will have seen liverpool won the carling cup and suddenly want to play for us, he's talking about the overall project. The new owners, the manager and the general change in the team from being in relegation positions at one point last season to fighting for fourth and having won a trophy (qualifying for europe in the process) and still being in another this season. Its been a massive turn around, alot of money spent granted but his overall point is in regards to what players look at in regards to which team they move to. Any team can sell a project to someone but if you don't have progress to show for all you're big talk its harder to buy into it.

Barcelona midfielder Seydou Keita has admitted that he is flattered to be linked with a move toLiverpool.

Reports have suggested that Kenny Dalglish is keen to bring the Mali international to Anfield in the summer and the 32-year-old, who joined Barca in 2008, has struggled to hold down a regular place at Camp Nou, making just 14 competitive starts so far this season.

The former Sevilla midfielder is relishing a new challenge in order to find regular first-team action and stated that Liverpool is an appealing destination.

"I am flattered by the interest of Liverpool, one of the biggest clubs in the world," Keita is quoted as saying by Sky Sports.

"However, let's wait until the end of the season with Barcelona and see what happens.

"I love Barcelona and it is difficult to find a better team than them, but I am ambitious and want to play football week in, week out.

"A challenge somewhere else is attractive to me and Liverpool are a top team with very good players."
