Fighting Weight Posted August 30, 2011 Report Share Posted August 30, 2011 Skysports.com understands Per Mertesacker has passed a medical and agreed personal terms with Arsenal.The giant Werder Bremen centre-back is in London ahead of what is reportedly a £10million transfer on a three-year contract.Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger turned his attention to Mertesacker, who has entered the final year of his contract in Germany, after deciding Bolton's Gary Cahill was too expensive.The move comes in the wake of Sunday's 8-2 humiliation at Manchester United, which convinced Wenger of the need to strengthen his defence.Mertesacker, 26, has already made 75 appearances for Germany and will therefore bring vast experience with him to Emirates Stadium.Arsenal are also on the brink of signing Brazilian left-back Andre Santos in a £6m move from Fenerbahce ahead of Wednesday's transfer deadline.Earlier on Tuesday, the Premier League club confirmed the signing of South Korea international striker Park Chu-young from Monaco. Heero Yuy Posted August 30, 2011 Report Share Posted August 30, 2011 Arsenal are preparing to shatter their transfer record by lodging a £25million bid to prise Yann M'Vila from Rennes on deadline day, Goal.com can reveal.The France international is Arsene Wenger's principal target in the last hours of the window and the manager is increasingly confident he can deliver a signing that would be a huge statement of intent.Arsenal have already had a £22m offer for the midfield anchorman rejected but sources have told Goal.com they will make another concerted attempt to sign the 21-year-old.Officials have been locked in negotiations with Rennes today and the two clubs are getting closer to reaching an agreement.Wenger himself was in France, although he will return to London to take training with the non internationals on Wednesday, after Arsenal were given two days off following their 8-2 humiliation at Manchester United.Goal.com understands that M'Vila is the main priority for Arsenal after a whirlwind 24 hours in which they have completed the signing of South Korea captain Park Chu-Young for an initial £3m fee and reached agreements to buy defensive duo Per Mertesacker and Andre Santos for a combined £14.1m.
