Starting line up for the first two group games if everyones fit -

Green

Johnson - Ferdinand - Terry - Cole

Lampard - Barry

Lennon - Rooney - Gerrard

Heskey

Then depending on the opposition in the knockout stages, Joe Cole can come in for Heskey to give us a different option.

We've not the best squad in the world, but Carragher for Johnson, Milner for added steel, Crouch and J.Cole for Heskey gives us some different options we've lacked in other years.

Forget players personal form, this England side is a team and we've 13 or 14 players who can make a difference at this level.

All our main players seem to be fit. When the finals start after all the training season form won't matter anyway.

We've taxtical flexibility, we might lack brilliant individuals but we do have 3 potential match winners (Rooney, Lampard, Gerrard and then Cole on the bench). We've a very good chance of getting to the quaters - and from there it's a lottery.

My main annoyance is Wright-Phillips. I'd have taken Johnson over him personally.

I'd prefer Dawson to Upson, but I'd have taken Bent instead of both. Just for an option to throw on. But with questions over Ferdinand, Terry and King's fitness, it's probably best to take the more experienced centre half. And Upson was a bloody rock in Croatia.

LOL

Bent scores 18 goals for Charlton in 06

Bent scores 24 goals for Sunderland in 10

Thats 42 goals in average teams if only he was Portuguese!

Bent's and Crouch's hold up play is better than Heskey's.

Shocking! Heskey just got a bly as Rooney was in good form when he was banging them in during qualifying.

England wont progress beyond 2nd round.

*edit*

Johnson should have gone instead of Milner. I suppose these guys don't believe in momentum.

Upson = SHOCKING! Maybe it's because he is a leftsided CB. He has limited international experience afterall.

1: I cant see Ivanhoe starting, I think he will go with Crouch, althoe Crouch is a good impact sub so I can see where ur coming from in regards to starting Ivanhoe but I think Crouch will get the no.9 and the nod in the 1st couple games..

2: England's problem is they have too many brilliant individuals and they dnt play as a team, we are going to see lesser teams like Mexico for example domiate Eng in possession because the ball retention Eng have is poor, the basic pass n move is so lackluster

3: I share ur feelings regarding Johnson, during his spell with Boro you could tell this kid was special, he shudda been given 45 to show what he could do. However SWP is not swag, and is a great option, I woudda taken Johnson over Warnock, 2 LB aint needed, Barry can play there and so can Upson.

Scotty Parker >>> Barry

Barry will be baited at this level, I think Milner may have problems 2 if Capello plays him in CM.

Joey Cole must be played off Rooney in the later stages, Rooney is not a no.10, he showed at Utd he can play up front on his own

Feel sorry for Baines tbh, he plays with Pienaar who is a much better footballer than Gerrard, in terms of pass n move n technical stuff, plus Gerrard left him exposed against Mexico

Been saying for a long time that you don't need to take Walcott when Lennon is fit, it's one or the other and Lennon is far more productive.

When I saw Walcott's interview declaring that he deserves to go because he has played at the highest level this season I was thinking, if only he actually produced anything then that point would be valid.

Just playing for a top team or being at the highest level isn't always enough. Guy is acting like he is a proven performer.

This season makes next season a defining one for him IMO.

He needs to stay fit and then step it up.

Don't see why SWP is going over Johnson but England always go with the tried and tested when it comes down to it.

I also think Huddlestone should have been included.

I've got no problem whatsoever with Walcott not going, I've still not seen any evidence he's a real footballer. The rest won't really make much difference either way, but what kind of message does it send when you can have a blinding season for a club that finished in the top 4, and be left behind for a guy who has been abysmal in a relegation-threatened team? You'd hope that you wouldn't ever need your 5th-choice centre-back in a tournament, but Dawson at least deserved the experience of being in the squad.

Rather than having a group of players who have played excellent football all season, but don't have the England caps to show for it, we'll take a load of people who have done f*ck all for 10 months but have amassed a bunch of caps at various points in the past. Wonderful.

I'd understand the argument better if we were talking about replacements for core members of the team, but in terms of the fringe players, the Plan Bs, where's the sense in totally ignoring form?

Theo is still young but he did have a poor season full of injuries and not being able to take his chances. The kid is full of critics waiting to latch on at him failing, that hat-trick against Croatia has just heaped expectations of him to a new level higher than 2006 (that wasn't his fault he got picked, blame Sven not Theo. Put yourself in that position and tell me what you'd do). He isn't the best crosser we all know that but at times they should try playing to his strengths which is the pace, knock it in behind and let him run or just give it and go. One thing he needs to do is become more aggressive and don't be so happy with his form, when questioned if he was happy he said yes, come on Theo we can all see you haven't been that good need to sort yourself out.

I feel for the kid since he does play for my club and I am a fan of his but he really needs to start listening and developing other wise it's all going to end in tears.

Rest of the squad was routine. I'm not a fan of SWP, for me this season he has fallen off and no doubt Ian Wright is doing cart wheels (guy pisses me off even as an Arsenal legend) but he has had the odd few good games for England. Shame Johnson isn't going who is our only genuine left footed winger and could have sprung some surprises but oh well we have to go with 2 similar right wingers and no one naturally left. Good on Joe Cole for getting in.

Capello said he picks players in form even the players agreed add pundits, coaches etc etc.

But I never bought that myth like I said before to quote Cassano

"Capello is faker than monopoly money"

North Korea Messes Up Final 23

North Korea striker Kim Myong-Won forced to play as goalkeeper - ESPN Soccernet

FIFA has confirmed North Korea will be only be able to play striker Kim Myong-Won as a goalkeeper at this summer's World Cup.

North Korea named Kim, who plays as a striker for Amrokgang, as one of their goalkeepers as they looked to boost their attacking options, relying on just two shot-stoppers for the tournament.

However, the World Cup Regulations state that "each association will be required to provide FIFA with a final list of no more than 23 players (three of whom shall be goalkeepers)".

FIFA has now told the country they will not be allowed to use Kim as an outfield player and, unless there is an injury, no changes will be permitted to their final squad.

When contacted by Soccernet, FIFA provided the following statement: "The squad lists that the teams had provided to FIFA by June 1, 2010 are final and can no longer be changed. On the final lists must be no more than 23 players, three of whom shall be goalkeepers.

"The only exception is in the case of a serious injury of a player in the list of 23, who could be replaced up until 24 hours before the first match of the team in the competition.

"The three players listed as goalkeepers can only play as goalkeepers during the FIFA World Cup and cannot play outfield. This will be communicated to the teams in the team arrival meetings and will be enforced on match days.

"So to answer the question regarding the North Korean player concretely: Kim Myong-Won will not be allowed to play as an outfield player if he has been put on the list as a goalkeeper."
