You’d think an experienced BBC journalist would know the difference.

One is an ultra-modern device that can locate you in any part of the globe, make your movies and draw on trillions of pieces of data across the world.

The other is a humble slab of white photocopier paper.

But apparently BBC newsreader Simon McCoy got the two things mixed up while presenting an item on the BBC News Channel. Because he appeared to be holding a fat packet of the stuff while presenting this morning.

An explanation comes via a BBC spokeswoman, who says: "This morning as Simon McCoywas preparing to introduce this story, instead of picking up his tablet to hold as he went to air, he mistakenly picked up a ream of paper that was sitting next to it.

"In the rush of live news, he didn't have an opportunity to swap the items, so simply went with it."

RadioTimes.com is also absolutely sure that the explanation has nothing to do with the subject of the report he was introducing – an examination into “problem drinking”.
