Child killer Amanda Hutton’s eldest son has spoken of his remorse at helping his mother cover up the death of his four-year-old brother.
Tariq Khan kept quiet as little Hamzah’s body lay mummified in a cot for two years after he died of severe neglect and malnutrition.
He told a court how Hutton, 43, threatened to kill five of his siblings living in her home if he went to police.
And he saw her hold a knife to the throat of one of them.
But today we can reveal that, moments after the trial, Tariq, 24, sent a text to his estranged father Aftab Khan telling of his remorse.
It said: “Dad, I’m sorry if I’ve ever hurt you. Sorry if I’ve let you down.”
Tariq’s alcoholic mother was jailed for 15 years for manslaughter and failing to lawfully bury Hamzah’s body.
Her son got two years suspended on the same charges.
Details of his apology have emerged as father Aftab told the Sunday Mirror his warnings over the children’s safety had been ignored.
Aftab was ordered to stay away from Hutton by a court in 2008 after admitting battering her.
He said he then told police to check on the children because of his ex’s alcoholism, but an officer found “nothing of concern”.
Aftab revealed he visited the squalid home in Bradford four weeks before Hamzah’s body was discovered and asked Hutton why flies were buzzing round the windows. She did not give him an answer.

A two-week trial heard how Hamzah’s decomposed and insect-infested body was discovered in a travel cot in Hutton’s bedroom at their home in September 2011.
He had died of malnutrition in December 2009 after his mother’s addictions to alcohol and cannabis took over her life.
Bradford crown court heard how almost every room was littered with plastic bags of household rubbish, bottles, filthy nappies, newspapers, vomit and mouldy food.
Hamzah’s body was found hidden in a travel cot, beneath clothes, shoes and bedding. Fed on just a banana and some milk a day, he had scavenged around for scraps.
Aftab said: “If people had listened to me my son would still be alive.”
But he admits he does not remember the last time he saw his tragic little boy Hamzah.
He said: “I did say to her, though, ‘you better look after the kids’. I really thought they were all right.
"You wouldn’t wish this on anybody.”
