imo they are two completley different things.LV is a high class luxury lifestyle brand.Levis is classic workwear inspired label.Levis crossed over when consumers started hunting down key pieces (from chore jackets to chambary shirts).Levis responded accordingly and created different sub labels (LVC for instance) to cater to it.in Asia for instance Burberry is still regarded as a top tier luxury brand. where as over here it's considered chav fodder, depends on who you ask and what they're into i guess.

LV is a centuries old leatherworkers. They make luggage and accessories. Very high quality luggage in fact. That's why it is expensive. And then they began to market it to the nouveau riche and they began making instantly recognisable designs because people with new money don't actually know whether something is well made or not, they know it is expensive and desirable, and they want everyone else to know. And that is why you see people walking round with check and monogram.Gucci on the other hand are a fashion house who have been making beautifully made clothes for decades. As with most other well established European high quality brands which became prominent in the 80s with the yuppy boom, they too underwent a marketing push with easily recognisable logos and colours. You see new money with Damier bags and red and green trainers and the wealthy with plain unrecognisable beautiful buttery soft leather satchels and a plain black sweater. sh*t's still Gucci and LV.Certain other brands like your True Religions, your Ed Hardy's, Von Dutch, Evisu, Moschino, Iceberg History. As brands, they were never popular with people who had an eye for quality and were directly marketed to people with more money than they needed. There's no history to them type of makes, so when they go out of style they will go out of business. Some of these more modern brands have appeared due to the brilliant designers leaving the big fashion houses and going out on their own like Donna Karen, Tom Ford and Giorgio Armani. Gucci, Chanel, Fendi, LV etc etc have established history and will be in business long after we are all dead.I just go by the rest of someone's outfit and lifestyle. If you have a gucci man bag and an LV wallet and are rocking an Ed Hardy top drinking Cristal but you don't have a car worth over 40 grand, or I see you on another day and your jeans come from Gap and your sweater comes from H&M then ur just caught up in the hype of trying to look rich. There's a difference between looking rich and lookin wealthy. But I would never try and put someone down for wanting to express their success in the form of branded clothing. Success is something you should be proud of. If you want to display it with a 2 grand outfit then more power to you.(Edited to add paragraphs cos no one is reading that sh*t otherwise)
