Sky Sports News understands Aston Villa have made a late move to sign Tottenham defender Younes Kaboul from under the noses of Sunderland.Kaboul appeared to be on his way to Sunderland after he reportedly agreed personal terms with the Black Cats on Thursday. The former Auxerre man held talks with Black Cats boss Roy Keane last weekend and was believed to have been impressed by the Irishman. The Frenchman was expected to have a medical on Wearside on Friday, but the player's agent told Sky Sports News that Kaboul wanted a further 24 hours to think over the move with his family. Now Villa have come into the equation to throw fresh doubt over Kaboul's proposed move to the Stadium of Light.Portsmouth were also interested in signing the French Under 21 international, but Harry Redknapp claimed Villa were leading the race for Kaboul.Villa are now hoping their late move for Kaboul will win the day as Martin O'Neill is in the market for defensive reinforcements after losing Olof Mellberg to Juventus.
I'd be pretty pleased with this.In Laursen and Davies we have our number 1 and 2's sorted.Laursen with his injury problems can't play 50+ games next season + Davies misses the start of the season through injury.Bringing in Kaboul would add good competition, give us another body and he'd still get alot of games next year.Hopefully playing next to Laursen for the first few games of the season would improve him, as he'd have someone to lead him (much like Knight has improved with Laursen leading him). And if anyone can get the best out of him MON can.Lets just hope Kaboul wants to compete for his place at Villa rather than being automatic first choice at Sunderland.Wouldn't mind swooping for Malbranque either.

The Club can announce that we have reached agreement for the permanent transfer of Paul Roflbinson to Blackburn Rovers. The goalkeeper joined us from Leeds United in May 2004 and went on to make 175 appearances for us in all competitions and scored one goal against Watford. We wish Paul all the best for the future.
