France Football has handed its prestigious Ballon d'Or award to Cristiano Ronaldo, a decision that will surprise no-one given his outstanding performances over the past 12 months. The 23-year-old led Sir Alex Ferguson's side to the Premier League and Champions League titles last term, netting some 42 goals along the way - an incredible feat for a player who predominately plays on the right flank.Ronaldo was a clear winner, collecting 77 votes from the 96 journalists who judge the award, while Lionel Messi of Barcelona and Liverpool's Fernando Torres filled out the placings.

delighted for him.good look for the club as well, Best was the last united player to win the award and that was in '68. Considering the amount of talent we've had since the 60's, it's been a long time coming.Hopefully now, Ronnie realises he can achieve all he wants playing for the BEST CLUB IN THE WORLDWell done sonr249531_1023700.jpg2513321272_19b26d2b35.jpg

True Totty but on the flip side theirs nothing more for him to win at Man Utd now.
I think there's much more he can achieve at United, such as trying to win back the hearts of the fans who he let down during the summer as well as cementing his place alongside the United legends. There's no doubt the fans will remember him as a very talented player, but will he be acknowledged as a UNITED legend with the likes of Ole, Best & Charlton??? I'm not too sure.TBH i think he'll stay for a lot longer than many people anticipate.

Cristiano Ronaldo pledged to keep improving after winning the Ballon d'Or in recognition of his astonishing season with Manchester United.Ronaldo succeeded 2007 winner Kaka after convincingly seeing off competition from Barcelona's Lionel Messi and Liverpool striker Fernando Torres.Of the 96 top journalists polled by France Football, 77 voted the Portugal winger as their leading player this year and every one placed him in their top five after he scored 42 goals to help United win the Premier League and Champions League double.Ronaldo polled 446 points from a maximum 480, finishing comfortably ahead of second-placed Messi (281) and third-placed Torres (179).The 23-year-old becomes the third Portuguese player to lift the famous trophy – after Eusebio and Luis Figo – and joins fellow United players George Best, Denis Law and Bobby Charlton in taking the award.Eleven Premier League players earned votes, with Steven Gerrard (ninth), Wayne Rooney (13th) and Frank Lampard (15th) the highest placed England players.Ronaldo is just the second England-based player to win the award since Best in 1968. Michael Owen, in 2001, is the other."It is one of the most beautiful days of my life. To gain this trophy is something I dreamed of as a child," said Ronaldo."Great emotion fills me but I cannot really describe it. I want to thank those who voted for me, those who know me and those who live with me."I was not worried, because I was aware of what I did in the course of the season. But to the people who mentioned my name, I say thank you. Thank you also to my team-mates."This (trophy) is one that I want to win again because it is so good. Therefore, I will wake and I will say to myself 'I want to be even better.'"Ronaldo admitted the number of strong candidates this year made his achievement even more special."I am only 23 years old and it is splendid, incredible," he continued. "There were other great names this year. I see that Lionel Messi finished second and Fernando Torres third, but also (fifth-placed) Xavi... all these people could have taken the trophy and I won it."Euro 2008 was the biggest disappointment in Ronaldo's season, where he scored once as Portugal were eliminated in the quarter-finals. However, his performances were hampered by an ankle injury which required surgery immediately after the tournament.

Ronaldo criticises WebbWinger declares referee wouldn't listen as he showed him redManchester United winger Cristiano Ronaldo has spoken of his dismay over his red card in United's 1-0 derby win over Manchester City. The Portuguese star stated that referee Howard Webb ignored his protests and was influenced by the home supporters.Ronaldo was booked for a challenge on City winger Shaun Wright-Phillips and received his second caution moments later when he deliberately handled Wayne Rooney's corner.Although United had to play the remainder of the game with 10 men, their win was never really in doubt. But the 23-year-old was still disappointed with the decision, he said: "Rooney took the corner, I jumped and that was when I heard a shout from (Micah) Richards and simultaneously the sound of a whistle."At that moment I was convinced the referee had blown for a foul. I stopped trying to head the ball and score a goal and I grabbed the ball so that Richards could get help.Frustration"It never entered my mind that the referee would show me a yellow card because for me I had not done anything wrong. To the contrary after Richards yelled I thought he was hurt and needed assistance."I heard the whistle, so I took the initiative and stopped the match."I understood the referee wanted to talk to me but maybe influenced by the fans, he put his hand in his pocket and sent me off."I tried to explain what happened but he did not want to listen."Ronaldo has scored eight times this season and despite publicly committing his future to United, rumours that it is only a matter of time before he signs for Real Madrid refuse to go away.It is the persistent scrutiny of his personality as well as his career that is frustrating the forward after he was allegedly quoted as saying he would finish first, second and third in the crowning of the European Footballer of the Year award.IrritatedHe added: "I have started to get tired of denying things. Anyone who knows me knows I would never make such a statement, it is absurd and abusive."It would not be right to show my professional colleagues so little respect and, as well as that, it's not what I think."I have come to understand that every movement I make, on or off the pitch is analysed to death."If I don't celebrate goals, it is because I am sad, if I don't talk to the public it is because I have lost my humility."In other words my slightest gesture always gets every type of criticism. People are always waiting for me to do something and they pick on absolutely normal and unimportant things to criticise."They analyse things that have nothing unusual about them through a magnifying glass. But I will always be the same regardless of what happens on or off the pitch."People only criticise the best, so what else can I say? Just that I am damned if I do and damned if I don't."
that guy tbh
