Its called fronting you cant claim the car as yours and have your parents as first driver then have yourself as registrated keeper granted its okay by police law but when you make a claim and insurance find out then the insurance is invalid how is that hard to understand do a google search its a risk all im saying is make sure you put the car in your parents name if they are first driver Read the f*cking insurance conditions. Yeah but the simple way around this is to have yourself as the first driver and have your mum as a named driver. You won't save as much but you'll still be saving a bit and will be within your terms and conditions. I've been doing it for years.Insurance is bollocks anyway. They make up the rules and move the goal posts. 4 years ago some woman crashed into my parked car in the snow. I wasn't anywhere near my car at the time. Her insurance took care of it. This lead to me unknowingly committing insurance fraud for 2 years, because I answered no to the question "Have you been involved in an accident in the last 3 years, regardless of fault". I always said no because it's such a f*cking subjective question. IMO it wasn't me being involved in an accident. It was some bint crashing her husband's car into mine when I was elsewhere. I underwrite risk at an insurance company. Its not so much they move the goal posts, its just you dont properly read and understand the policy wording. Most people dont. Until recently I never read my documents, just assumed everything would be fine, then you read them when you need them and you find your f*cked. Cheaper insurance policies are cheap for a reason I'm not as knowledgeable as you on insurance as it is your profession, but I have worked on several bits of software for the insurance sector. My understanding is that most insurance companies make minimal money on motor insurance. Generally, insurers that provide motor insurance will make their money through selling additional cover, especially life insurance. This is why EVERY motor insurance policy will not leave you satisfied should you need to claim. The profits just aren't there. If your car gets hit and needs repair work, this will be done at the lowest cost to the insurer. If you are involved in a car accident that isn't your fault and you get injured, it is not uncommon for the other insurance company to attempt to agree compensation with you hours after the accident. This is done with the hope that you haven't had time to seek proper legal advice with regards to compensation. Again, so they can save money. Should you car worth £8k get stolen, don't be surprised when your insurance company offer to pay out £5k for the car. I accept your point, I just don't believe that there is much of a difference in motor insurance policies meaning that you'll get a stellar service from one and a poor service from another.
