http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/crime/8696413/Students-and-estate-agent-tried-to-loot-PC-World-court-hears.html
Saffron Armstrong, Kairo Lawson and Gassam Ojjeh, all 22, were said to have gone in search of electronic goods at a branch of PC World that had been targeted the previous day. When they friends were cornered by police officers and a dog, one claimed he was just a “freelance journalist” inspecting the damage caused by looters, City of Westminster Magistrates Court was told. The court heard that Armstrong has just finished the first year of an accountancy course at Kingston University, while Lawson is a second year engineering student at London South Bank University and Ojjeh is an estate agent. The three friends from Mitcham, Surrey, were arrested on Wednesday after allegedly breaking into PC World on a retail park in Colliers Wood, south London, in order to steal from it.The shop had seen its shelves stripped bare a day earlier as lawlessness spread across the capital.Lisa Brown, prosecuting, said: “Clearly these riots were some of the worst that took place.“Substantial damage had been caused and properties had been looted.“These offences took place against that backdrop.“The men were discovered by police dogs in a property that had been substantially vandalised and looted over the past 24 hours.“It is not clear the full extent of the damage, but let's just say it was clearly substantial.”After they were caught by police dogs Armstrong claimed he had just been there for research as he was a writer while Lawson – who has previous convictions for assault – allegedly had to be restrained by police.“Mr Lawson struggled,” said the prosecutor. “The officers had to resort to punching him in the back several times.”Both students pleaded guilty to burglary while the estate agent, who has a 21 month-old child, denied the same charge. They were remanded in custody and will be sent to Wood Green Crown Court for trial in the case of Ojjeh and sentencing for the other pair, who face jail sentences.
