This is it in a nutshell.

Given that NESV had just taken over from Hicks and Gillet who'd been asset stripping us for years, it would have looked very bad had they sold our star striker for £50 million in their first transfer window and sat on the cash although I for one would have been happy for them to do that until summer.

After we got knocked back by Bilbao for Llorente they felt they had to buy somebody and unfortunately Carroll was who they picked.

Carroll will never be a £35 million for a number of reasons but one of them not often mentioned is that he simply doesn't believe he is worth that much.

You look at someone like C Ronaldo and you get the impression in his head he probably thinks that Real got a bargain in paying £80 million for him.
