The Xbox One will require an internet connection at least once every 24 hours in order to play games offline.

This number is reduced to every hour if you're accessing your library from another location.

"With Xbox One you can game offline for up to 24 hours on your primary console, or one hour if you are logged on to a separate console accessing your library," Microsoft explained on its official site. "Offline gaming is not possible after these prescribed times until you re-establish a connection, but you can still watch live TV and enjoy Blu-ray and DVD movies."

Everyone is bitching about this always online crap but seriously, when was the last time you disconnected a console from the internet on purpose? And come to think of it, for what purpose?

When was the last time you had no internet connection for 24 hours? And is that something you have to deal with regularly? If so you need to change your provider.

The biggest gripes I have are with the trade in stuff. I might have never brought and played Gears of War 2, if I hadn't gotten a second hand copy of the first game.

And another thing, downloading games cant be the same price or more expensive than going to a shop to purchase the same game, thats a piss take. Not like we are getting a disc, a case and any physical content.

Its cheaper for companies if we download games so that better make the game cheaper.

yeah because an ISP cant just randomly fuck up every now and then, a contractor cant dig up a road and cut cables, it cant drizzle and the whole regions phone lines go down

its not a "fix your lif youre swag if you dont have internet" thing. shit happens, and if something out of my control fucks up unexpectedly then what?

what if i go away for a fortnight? do i have to leave everything turned on?

does it still have to connect if theres a power cut and i cant even turn it on?

You've miss interpreted me, I was saying downloading games SHOULD be cheaper.

Yes it takes a while to download a game but will it take any more time than you going to the shop to get said game yourself?

I'm not saying that internet connections cant fuck up, even I've been on the end of that, and ok you've been without internet for a week one time. They are playing the odds obviously, but I'd expect a lot of these conditions to change during the consoles span. Theres no way the connection can be perfect continuously and they will have to bow to that, dont think they dont have a way to change those settings, because we can all guarantee it will need to be changed.

Realistically this won't affect most people for more than a day. Hell I had a line out just last week, The engineers dug up the road the same day and worked through the night to have the problem fixed before most people woke up the next morning.

Something they should check though is the xbox live subscription, cos if they are telling us that we need to be always online (once every 24 hours) and something does happen thats beyond our control, (This does not include going on holiday lol) will Microsoft extend the subscription?

You do not own the games you buy. You license them.

Discs are only used to install and then license games and do not imply ownership.

People can play games installed on your console whether you're logged in or not.

10 people can be authorised to play these games on a different Xbox One via the cloud, but not at the same time, similar to iTunes authorised devices.

Publishers decide whether you can trade in your games and may charge for this.

Publishers decide whether you can give a game you own to someone for free, and this only works if they have been on your friends list for 30 days.

Your account allows you to play the games you license on any console.

Your Xbox One must connect to the internet every 24 hours to keep playing games.

When playing on another Xbox One with your account, this is reduced to one hour.

Live TV, Blu-ray and DVD movies are exempt from these internet requirements.

Loaning and renting games will not be possible at launch, but Microsoft is "exploring the possibilities".

Microsoft may change these policies or discontinue them at any point.

Agree with davx, was saying the other day, none of these restrictions matter to me, but it's the principle of it.

do other industry mistreats their customers like this?

really hope Xbox fails, PS4 too if they're gonna be anything similar

Itunes is quite the par if you've ever actually read the T&Cs

All industries would do this madness if they could, thats the reality.

Its still principally wrong but day to day no one will give a fuck. It will only matter in those non day to day circumstances.

The thing is,

MS is actually releasing info

I'm worried that Sony are just keeping quiet but will come with the same DRM bullshit.

Sony just can't compete with MS financially, i can't go with a console on the basis that it's more of a game consoles when i know i will be getting DLC 1 month after everyone else

That is not acceptable.

It's all a bit confusing but i'm just going to wait till they explain it fully, it seems that no one is really sure what is happening/What will happen.
