Carlisle close on Chester

Skysports.com understands Carlisle United have agreed a deal to bring in Manchester United youngster James Chester on loan.

Carlisle boss Greg Abbott has been busy trying to improve his squad ahead of next weekend's big kick-off and signed trialist Francois Zoko earlier in the week.

The League One club have confirmed a signing from the Premier League is imminent and it is understood that defender Chester is the mystery target.

Managing director John Nixon told the club's official website: "We're delighted to be able to report that it looks like all of the hard work has paid off.

"We will definitely have one and possibly even two players from a Premier League team in our squad tomorrow. It's good news for us as we continue to work towards the first game of the season next weekend."

Abbott added: "We've spent a lot of time on the phone with one of the top Premier League clubs and we are delighted with how it has gone.

"Out of courtesy we won't name names just yet, as there is still a little bit of work to do, but we should be in a position to say more ahead of kick off tomorrow."

Chester has made just one substitute's appearance for United and has previously had loan spells at Peterborough United and Plymouth Argyle.

Yeovil are poised to sign Manchester United youngster Cameron Stewart, skysports.com understands.

The League One club have lined up a six-month loan deal with the highly-rated attacker after he impressed in Darren Way's benefit match against a Manchester United XI last weekend.

Stewart caught the eye of Glovers boss Terry Skiverton and he has moved quickly to bring him to Huish Park.

Manchester United are willing to loan out Stewart so that he can get valuable first-team action under his belt.

Skysports.com understands Manchester United have agreed to loan out Danny Welbeck to Sunderland.

The Black Cats made an enquiry about taking the highly-rated striker on a season-long spell at the Stadium of Light.

Scout sent by Ibrox club to take in Manchester United XI against St Johnstone.

Rangers bid to strengthen their squad for the new season continues after they had a Manchester United youth side watched in a friendly against St Johnstone. Sandy Jardine was in the stands as United beat the Perth side 3-2 in Alan Main’s testimonial match.

STV Sport understands that Jardine was running the rule over United’s young side in general but was paying particular attention to striker Joshua King. The 18 year-old played as a centre-forward and scored on Saturday but can also be deployed on the wing.

The side, coached by former United striker Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, was packed with young talent and Jardine would have seen several players who have the potential to make an impact in the SPL.

Brazilian midfielder Rodrigo Possebon was a key figure in midfield and showed an appetite for the physical side of the game. Northern Ireland Under-21 midfielder Oliver Norwood is a set-piece specialist who has been described by senior team manager Nigel Worthington as “a genius”.

Boss: Cleverley must stay

Tom Cleverley will remain with United this season because Sir Alex Ferguson says he is so talented that the Reds cannot afford to let him join another club on loan.

Cleverley impressed on loan last season with Watford and, although he has been considered to have a promising future at Old Trafford, Sir Alex was at one point mulling over sending him on loan to a Premier League club.

But Cleverley, who turns 21 next week, did himself a lot of favours with his performances on the summer tour across North America.

“He is an exceptional young player in terms of his ability to play a variety of positions,” Sir Alex said on Friday. “He is such a talent, we must keep him.

“He showed at Watford that he’s a goalscorer from midfield and we need that. He has outstanding qualities.”

The manager’s words are a major boost for Tom, whose burgeoning young career is really starting to take shape at Old Trafford.

Giggs told us 5 years ago that Fergie only attends training 2 or 3 times a week anyway, as Tulse said his true love is Horse racing now.

i wouldnt be suprised about Gill f*ck*ng up the Ozil deal,

fergies backtracking on his initial claims that Cleverly would be going out on Loan kind of signals that we've flopped somewhere in the market.

or it couldve all been a tactic to keep the price down.
