Shouldn't  have said only because obviously there are genuine white Rnb fans that will support the likes of Maxwel and co when he comes out, but a large percentage of Justin Timberlake, new Robin Thicke fans do not listen to or support RnB acts like that, but will support them two and to me a key reason for that is because they're white. If you look at it in the past few years we've had Amy Winehouse, Adele(less so) and co all sell major units compared to their black compatriots, no one is saying that these guys are not talented but they're fanbase is definitely bigger due to the fact that they are white in a predominately black dominated genre.

Robin Thicke and Justin Timberlake are the biggest selling rnb artists of this year, in a genre which is dominated by black musicians?

Why didn't Miguel and Frank Ocean sell so much then if it isn't true.

Fair enough JT has his loyal nsync fans that would ride for him, but Robin Thicke doesn't a key reason for him selling so much is because he is white, thats the truth if you want to bury your head in the sand then so be it.

The legal battles between Robin Thicke and the estate of Marvin Gaye have been going on for a while; they’re bitter and weird, and they’re only heating up. A couple of months ago, Thicke filed a preemptive lawsuit against the Gaye clan, to prevent the Gayes from suing Thicke and to make it legally clear that there were no actionable similarities between Thicke’s massive summer hit “Blurred Lines” and Gaye’s classic “Got To Give It Up.” Later, Billboard reported a story that the Gaye family had turned down a six-figure settlement from Thicke. And now the Gaye family is suing the sh*t out of Thicke and EMI.

As The Hollywood Reporter reports, the Gaye family claims that Thicke stole not only “Blurred Lines” from Gaye but that Thicke’s 2011 single “Love After War” rips off Gaye’s “After The Dance” and that a “Marvin Gaye fixation” runs through Thicke’s entire body of work. The Gaye family is also suing the song publisher EMI April, which has had relationships with both the Gaye family and Thicke, claiming that EMI didn’t adequately protect the Gaye catalog and that the company attempted to intimidate the Gayes and keep them from filing the lawsuit. The suit claims that EMI should lose rights to “Blurred Lines” and to the Gaye catalog.

The lawsuit cites a GQ interview in which Thicke claims that he and his collaborators had talked about “Got To Give It Up” in the studio when they were putting together “Blurred Lines”: “Damn, we should make something like that, something with that groove.” They’ve also brought in a musicologist who claims that the songs share “at least eight substantially similar compositional features,” which “far [surpass] the similarities that might result from attempts to evoke an ‘era’ of music or a shared genre.” And the Gaye kids claim that EMI planted the story about the six-figure settlement, which they say was not true.

Whatever you think of Thicke, or of Gaye’s legacy, this is a very dangerous and frivolous lawsuit. Thicke is obviously profoundly influenced by Marvin Gaye, but “Blurred Lines” is simply not the same song as “Got To Give It Up.” And if musicians can start suing other musicians based on matter of influence, it’s going to f*ck the whole game up. If the suit is successful, it’s not hard to envision a future in which, say, the Sam Cooke estate could sue the Marvin Gaye estate. I can’t imagine the Gaye family will succeed in its crusade here, but we’ll see what happens.

NEW YORK (AP) — Marvin Gaye's children have settled claims against a music company owned by Sony over Robin Thicke's Grammy-nominated hit song "Blurred Lines."

The Gayes had accused EMI of not pursuing a copyright infringement case against Thicke because "Blurred Lines" has similarities to Gaye's "Got to Give It Up."

A Los Angeles judge on Tuesday granted Nona Marvisa Gaye and Frankie Christian Gaye's dismissal of their lawsuit against EMI, which is owned by Sony/ATV Music Publishing. Documents say the Gayes and Sony have an agreement and claims against Sony can't be brought again. Terms of the settlement weren't disclosed.

Dueling lawsuits between the Gaye family and Thicke remain active.

Thicke and his collaborators T.I. and Pharrell Williams asked a federal judge in August to rule they didn't copy "Got to Give It Up" for "Blurred Lines," which is nominated for record of the year and other awards at the Jan. 26 Grammy Awards. Their song has sold 6.6 million tracks and was last year's biggest hit. It spent 12 weeks on top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Gaye's children accused the performers in October of copying elements of his music for "Blurred Lines." Their lawsuit sought to block Thicke from using elements of their father's music in other songs and claimed Thicke improperly used Gaye's "After the Dance" for his No. 1 R&B hit "Love After War."

Representatives for Sony, Thicke and the Gaye family didn't immediately reply to emails seeking comment on Tuesday.

Marvin Gaye, whose other hit songs include "Sexual Healing" and "Let's Get It On," was shot dead by his father in 1984.
