Spade's dad come up on Stur Gav sound, which was nurtured in Tivoli and featured artists like U-Roy (who Josey was arguably an apprentice of). From the 70s to the 00s the sound kept it's Labourite/Shower connections and didn't hide them.

Jim Brown's memorial in Tivoli - you can hear Ken Boothe shout out Dudus, as well as old school Shower man at 4 mins in. "A yah so mi belly string cut" - as he said, before bigging up fallen gunmen like Byah (who tried to kill Bob Marley according to legend) and Ba-Bye (Jim Brown's old name)..

"Nice people dem, mi nuh know nuttin bout nuh badness"

Same way for the Socialist PNP affiliated sounds like Stur-Mars (Stereo-Mars) which bust artists like Supercat, Tenor Saw, Nicodemus and many, many others. Big 80s socialist dons like Skeng and posses like the Spanglers and Gully posse happily funded the soundsystems, especially around election time, where people yearned for the safety, security and enjoyment provided at the dances.

Joe Lickshot @ 1:20ish "SIX UNION! COME TOGETHER! SHUT DOWN COUNTRY" - straight up Socialist PNP union gangster business.

Cutty Ranks @ 39:15 - "Mi waan di leadership weh name Michael Manley! A special request to all Junglist posse...Mi love, mi like, mi love, mi like, mi love mi PNP"

Note the sea of red/orange - the colours of the a Socialist/PNP. Halfway through this footage the promoter cuts the show to play a special dubplate aimed directly at Edward Seaga - the JLP candidate. In 1983 Eddy won power after calling a snap election, so the PNP had to make 'grassroots' efforts to encourage voters. Soundsystems were a BIG part of 'soft politics'.

Junglists being man from outta Arnett Gardens, who fought wars with 'Gardenites'/Shower man from nearby Tivoli Gardens.

Back to the Shower ting, Jim Brown and the mandem made a concerted effort to secure soundsystems and stageshows to encourage voters to ally themselves to the JLP. The 'Champion in Actions' (or C.I.A. to play on the rumoured links between the JLP and the C.I.A.) was run for the exact purpose - to make politics and ghetto life appear seamless.

You can check Dudus on the powerbike at 1:06. You can also hear a shoutout to Olivia 'Babsy' Grange, a 'promoter' in the 80s who ran an artist management company called Spec-Shang and who later became a JLP MP at 2:34 in the vid.

This is the same Babsy Grange who owned the car that Andrew 'Bun Man' Hope - a top ranking One Order don from Spanish Town - was killed in. The ting is DEEP.

The footage I posted above was pretty much the peak of Stur-Mars as a sound...they pretty much shutdown after the 1986 election when the PNP lost as they were no longer needed. Manley cut ties with some of the worst 'elements' he had attracted in the run-up to the elections and a lot of gunmen found themselves on hit-lists. It was self-exiled PNP badman who were running things hot abroad, especially the Gully and Spanglers man.

Respects to Dirty Indian fi the info.  "Big up Albert the videoman. This dance was held in Brooklyn as a private affair in an apartment located at Irene Court on Sterling Place and Schenetady Ave. In the background is Pleasure, Crat, Planner, Roland Demus, Carter Brown, Cornel Doggie, myself, and the Original owner Addie who I sold nuff equipment to."

A video from a Gully dance held in the same building, Irene Court on Sterling and Schenechtady Ave mentioned below. This was the REAL New Jack City - the movie was quite clearly based on the story here.

The group is accused of killing at least 10 people, most of them rival drug dealers and former gang members who crossed the gang's leader, identified as Eric Vassell, 31 years old. Investigators said they believe the Gulleymen -- who take their name from a neighborhood in Kingston, Jamaica, called McGregor's Gulley -- were responsible for 20 other slayings.

'So Brutally, So Cruelly'

Several former gang members whom Mr. Vassell and his associates had tried to kill cooperated with investigators, said James M. Fox, assistant director in charge of the New York F.B.I. office. "Vassell treated his people so brutally, so cruelly, that some of them turned on him," Mr. Fox said.

After a 10-month investigation, scores of Federal agents and city police officers raided 22 buildings starting at 8 P.M. Thursday in Brooklyn, Albany, Uniondale, L.I., and Dallas. The gang's headquarters was an apartment building at 1367 Sterling Place near Schenectady Avenue in the Crown Heights section of Brooklyn, Mr. Fox said. The authorities seized 15 guns, $150,000 in cash and six buildings.

Those arrested Thursday night were charged yesterday in Federal court with drug trafficking and money laundering as well as participation in 10 murders. Prosecutors said state murder charges and a Federal racketeering indictment are being prepared.

The apartment building was known in the organization as "the White House" or "the killing house," Mr. Fox said. The police said gang members and rival dealers were often brought there and shot to death in the hallways, or beaten in vacant apartments.

The gang sold crack in the stairwells of the apartment building 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, netting about $8,000 daily, Mr. Fox said. A crew of four workers sold to customers in the stairwells, carrying money and drugs from several "stash" apartments. Houses and Stores

Mr. Vassell bought the building, using a dummy corporation, in the early 1980's, after ordering the murder of the owner, the complaints charged.

The gang used drug profits to buy lavish houses in Uniondale and Hempstead, L.I., where they stored drugs, and to buy businesses that were fronts for drug operations, the police said. The complaints accuse the gang of importing more than 400 guns since 1987 and forging dozens of passports and green cards for gang members.

The gang also sold packaged wholesale cocaine and heroin to street-corner drug dealers who paid the Vassell organization a tax, investigators said. "He franchised his operation in New York, just like Roy Rogers or McDonald's," Mr. Fox said. Shipping 'Vote Getters'

A soft-spoken man, Mr. Vassell ran the posse from the backroom of a video store, Crat & Al's, at 203 Schenectady Avenue, and from the Crown Heights Domino and Soccer Association nearby, detectives said.

In June 1984, the complaint charges, Mr. Vassell ordered the death of the former landlord of the Sterling Place building, Joscelyn D. Watson, because he had frequently called the police to the neighborhood.

Hear the Spanglers shoutout at 2:02. Them times in Jamaica PNP money was tight.

The money made abroad funded community events like this, which again were aimed at getting votes. Uzi, Planner, Crat all stood as dons in areas like McGregor Gully and any little investment, whether money or guns was welcomed.

Note: Compare McGregor's Treat to Champions in Action and you'll understand how much money the Shower operation was generating.

A lot of PNP affiliated artists left to go to New York and London and Toronto to make money and 'cool out' as Shower money was running Jamaica RED, some survived, some didn't - guys like Tenor Saw ended up dead in Texas, Nitty Gritty got shot by Supercat in a shootout outside Super Power records on Church Ave in Brookyn. Early B got shot dead in a dance by a random gunshot.

Politics aside, the 90s took a LOT of artists - Panhead, Dirtsman, Garnett Silk, Dennis Brown, Nicodemus, Junjo Lawes, Daddy Tar, the list goes on. Josey was lucky to make it through, nuff man got shot down and killed either in JA or inna foreign.

On a side note, Spades being on the Trap God remix makes a lot more sense.
