Guest faze
MODEST Everton captain Phil Neville was last night the third most tweeted-about subject in the WORLD - after jokers deluged the web with messages of worship. More people mentioned the 33-year-old footballer on Twitter than wrote about Barack Obama or even the US mid-term elections. But his rapid rise to global fame also left many baffled - with one Twitter fan asking: "Okay... Who is Phil Neville... ??? Anyone???" Twitter ... on mobile phone Twitter ... on mobile phone Alamy Usually Twitter's "top trend" charts are dominated by big international names like pop star Justin Bieber or the US President. Everton wags sparked the hijack after Spurs star Gareth Bale's brilliant performance against Inter Milan on Tuesday. They noted that only last week Neville had stopped Bale from wreaking similar havoc on Everton - and started joking about their skipper's superpowers. They spiralled into THOUSANDS of bizarre musings. Tweets included: "Phil Neville doesn't use the force... he is the force!" and "Death once had a near Phil Neville experience." There was also: "The Queen sings God Save Phil Neville" and "If Phil Neville was from Sparta, '300' would just be called '1'. Ex-Everton team-mate Landon Donovan noticed the surge and tweeted: "Phil Neville is trending?!? What has this world come to?!?!?!?" It takes around 5,000 tweets about a subject to make it a top trend. Only two subjects were being discussed more: "African Americans", as there are now no African Americans in the US Senate, and "RIP Andy", referring to a dead US pro surfer.
