We're talking about a 20 year old in comparison to a 26 year old, a youngster still learning his game in comparison to a player entering his 'peak years'. They also played in different leagues. 

 

If you compare Di Maria to Markovic now then of course his numbers will be better, looking at players in similar stages of their development is widely viewed as the fairest way to make player comparisons.  

 

It just so happens they both played in the same league and for the same team and those are the numbers.

 

Di Maria is better than Markovic but like I said if there isn't a huge gape between their contributions, I mean like a £40 million gap come the end of the season...
