London News: Elias Kajue, sex attacker who tried to rape woman after she ignored chat-up lines at Cricklewood station, jailed Friday, 30 January 2009 A SEX attacker who dragged the woman into a London underpass and tried to rape her after she ignored his chat-up lines is behind bars.Violent drug-user Elias Kajue, who had a string of previous convictions, struck as his 23-year-old victim waited for an early morning train at Cricklewood station in north-west London.CCTV footage "graphically" showed Kajue, 22, on a bike near an all-but-deserted platform underpass before spotting his victim. She had eating a packet of biscuits, expecting the 6.15am train to arrive any minute, when the defendant approached her and asked if she had a boyfriend. London's Southwark Crown Court heard that when his "ham-fisted attempt to chat her up" was rejected he turned to violence, grabbing her around the head and hurting her mouth. The footage, which Judge Stephen Robbins said "made for startling viewing", then recorded him dragging the "terrified" woman into the underpass as she struggled and screamed for him to leave her alone. Sally Mertons, prosecuting, told the court, he gradually pulled her further into the tunnel before throwing her to the ground. She said the woman, who vainly tried to fight her attacker off, recalled: "I was screaming really loud, proper screaming. He was saying 'What is wrong with you? Do you want me to rape you?' "He was trying to pull his trousers down." At one stage he could clearly be seen lying on top of her. Fortunately, two passers-by saw what was happening and shouted at him to stop. Although they did not physically intervene, Kajue left the woman on the floor, ran for his bike and escaped. Local newspaper publicity, together with the victim's description of a "loyalty" tattoo on his forearm and his previous convictions stored on the police national computer, eventually helped officers identify him. Miss Mertons said the woman had since spoken of disturbed sleep and "flashbacks" of the attack in which she could clearly see his face. The barrister told the court Kajue's long list of previous court appearances included a robbery offence. He was jailed for 18 months for that and released just months before he attacked the woman. Mertons added his brushes with the law, which began when he was just 12, also featured an allegation of sexual assault on a teenage girl, a complaint the alleged victim later withdrew. "I mention that because it may be something you can take into account in the assessment of dangerousness." The defendant, from West Hampstead, north-west London, admitted one count of sexual assault on August 31 last year. He also pleaded guilty to "unlawfully and injuriously imprisoning and detaining" his victim with the intention of committing the offence. Imposing a sentence for public protection, the judge told a bearded and impassive Kajue he would not be considered for parole until he had served a minimum of six years. "I have seen the CCTV pictures which make for startling viewing. "During the struggle you were seen to be fiddling with your trousers possibly to carry out your earlier threat." He said that when a probation officer interviewed him for a pre-sentence report "you reported that in the past you carried a knife to protect yourself because of turf wars and violence in your area. "After one of your friends was stabbed to death you said 'I carry a knife or be a victim'. "You also reported you had been stabbed on two previous occasions. Your whole lifestyle and socialisation supports your substance abuse, violence and sexually unrestrained behaviour." He continued: "I accept your offending is escalating. I find dangerousness has been established. "If ever there is a case of an escalating risk with alarm bells ringing this is one, based on your last offence and this offence, which if you had not been disturbed could or would have ended up with the rape of the terrified victim," the judge added
