My match summaryRe watched the game and this is my view of what went down:Hiddink and Rafa set out in very different fashions with our manager almost pulling off a master stroke in this marathon chess game. Hiddink had the intention of going through wide positions early in the game and try trouble our back four by putting balls into the box for them to deal with or when we move up higher in the field with our fullbacks to try catch us on the break. Rafa quite clearly saw this and decided to neutralise Malouda with Kuyt, with Arbeloa picking up second balls vice versa with Benayoun and Kalou with Aurelio doing that job. Hiddink saw this at around the 5th minute mark ordered Cole to bomb forward down the left this time Mascherano closing down that potential route and they where forced to pass infield or balls up to Dropba at this time Skrtel played shirt tight to Dropba and the plan seemed to be working seamlessly. Alonso dropping deeper than Masch who was asked by Rafa to destroy and break up play further up the pitch to ensure Torres can get in the end of any potential break away attacks this nullified Lampard and Essien earlier on. In our attacking play Rafa saw that Torres was isolated and slowly but surely ordered Benayoun to play closer to him and drop off for any potential flick ons..this resulted in our first real chance with Benayoun and Torres combining well creating a chance I felt Fernando should have burried. The other weakness Rafa saw in the Chelsea team was the balls into the sixyard area especially Cech post-cranium injury and no Terry in their side. This was the most obvious and the most straight forward of Rafa's tactics it was just the executing which has always been a problem at the club but thankfully Fabio stepped up to the plate and produced a moment of pure genius. You could see the fear in Cech's eyes he knew this would be a VERY long night. Another freekick this time into the area they are at their weakest with Ivanovic giving a penalty away and 2-0 we are back in the tie. The onslaught continued and Chelsea and Cech knew that they were fortunate to still have a lead in the tie. Hiddink before the break saw what Rafa did with Kalou in making him chase shadows with Benayoun and Aurelio and he went for athleticism and more technique a move that won him the game. The second half starts we set out the same way but Chelsea dropped their fullbacks into ultra defensive mode but pushed their wide men further up the pitch. Resulting in Kuyt and Benayoun pushing forward leaving a gaping space between our wide men and Chelsea's which is how their first goal came about. Anelka running down the byline Aurelio matching him stride for stride with the thought in the back of his mind being don't concede a corner let Skrtel deal with it.... Anelka manages to squeeze a cross in, with Skrtel at this point marking Dropba and him at the back of his mind thinking don't deflect it into your goal let Pepe deal with it..Dropba manages to get the faintest of touches on it changing positioning of the ball. At this point Pepe sees the cross come in but Skrtel diving into it with him thinking Skrtel is kicking it into touch but little did he know that Dropba got a deflection on it and Skrtel depended on him while Fabio on Skrtel and 2-1. We are staring at a potential penalty shoot out with Pepe,Skrtel and Fabio feeling they could have done better and this possibly playing on their mind. That goal more than the fact that it was a goal seemed to be the goal that raised the beast Dropba of 2006. A freekick 30 yards out they miss just as the temperature rises in Hiddink's men another freekick this time further out beats Reina and its 2-2. I see Hiddink giving out instructions telling his wide men to play tighter to the Liverpool wide men who hadn't started the second half as strongly as they ended the first half. Now resorting to balls down the channels for Dropba holding up the ball and Lampard and Ballack supporting him they could afford to do this as his strength and the lack of confidence of the Liverpool backfour was evident. Poor defending lead to Lampard ghosting into the box and all but ending Liverpool's hopes due to poor defending by Aurelio who looked very tired at this point I expected to see Dossena.Nothing ever ends normally with this football club though. Rafa barking orders down the sideline this was the ending of Fernando Torres's evening and on came young N'gog trying to get some energy upfront. This payed off as N'gog chased a ball that was really going nowhere and the enigma wrapped in another enigma that goes by the name of Lucas gets the ball 20 yards out taking a shot which deflects off Essien and hello the Istanbul spirit was creeping in. Rafa had already told Kuyt to tuck in and support N'gog with Arby moving forward into the right midfielder position and this masterstroke also paying off with Liverpool getting another goal the impossible is becoming possible and Rafa must have been thinking Fernando go back on . Arbeloa coming off and Babel on for him you could see the urgency in Rafa's tactical outset with every intention of grabbing the tie. Leaving us a little bit open at the back but this was a risk that had to be taken and one that ultimately didn't pay off and resulted in Chelsea getting their fourth goal.In my opinion we have seen tactically the two best managers in the world go back and forth with some gambles and calculated decisions. Two very analytically minded managers who look at a game in the bigger picture. This is what football is about a part of the game I have always been fascinated by and dissected. I for one HOPE to god that Hiddink leaves as manager because he is a guy that could take them to levels higher than they were at with Mourinho.I have been convinced from this game and the Utd and Chelsea double that Rafa is the man to take this club into another glory period and period I believe similar to that of the late 70's and early 80's a period in which people will say you see that team, that team is Liverpool the greatest team in Europe. This is the first real glory period of my Liverpool supporting life now lets go on and win that title. We are the men of Shankly's best.

Tell ya what lads Porto is one of the hardest places to go and get a win in europe, they'll make that pitch as small as possible with the crowd feeling like its on top of you, united players could easily crumble tonight

We've not been convincing away from home all season. And with Porto's home record in the CL, it doesn't look too great on paper. To have any sort of chance we need to get off to a good start and dictate the tempo. A large part of why they troubled us so much @ OT was because we didn't get in and amongst them early doors.Fletcher would have done a job tonight but I guess Ando could fill in quite easily, and he'll be up for this too.Prediction; 2-1 utdFormation;VdsOshea/RafaelRioVidicEvraScholesAndersonCarrickRonaldoBerbsRooneyNo doubt SAF will find some way of starting Park and Giggs though.
