Michel Kane
                                      Chelsea have reacted furiously to suggestions they were willing to include either Juan Mata or David Luiz as a make-weight in a prospective deal for Wayne Rooney after their initial straight cash offer for the England striker, thought to be worth around £20m, was rejected.  The opening bid for the 27-year-old was tabled on Tuesday and immediately knocked back by the Premier League champions, who have since indicated they are not willing to sell Rooney to their title rivals. That resolve could yet be tested by an improved offer for a player who has made it clear he wishes to move on, with Stamford Bridge believed to be his favoured destination, though relations between the two clubs have now been severely damaged by the episode.  Chelsea felt compelled to release a statement on Wednesday after reports circulated initially from Manchester, but then taken up in Sydney where United are currently on pre-season tour, claiming they had offered £10m plus either Mata or Luiz for the forward. Neither player is currently with the squad in Thailand having been granted further time off after their participation in the recent Confederations Cup, and have therefore not met their new manager José Mourinho face to face.  They confirmed a cash bid had been submitted to United, despite David Moyes having consistently stated the player is not for sale, but hinted at their underlying frustration that, firstly, the move had been made public and, secondly, a part-exchange had been mooted. "Chelsea Football Club can confirm that, yesterday, it made a written offer to Manchester United for the transfer of Wayne Rooney," said a spokesman. "Although the terms of that offer are confidential, for the avoidance of doubt and contrary to what is apparently being briefed to the press in Sydney, the proposed purchase does not include the transfer or loan of any players from Chelsea to Manchester United."  Mourinho had gone on record on Tuesday, in the buildup to his first game back in charge against Singha All-Stars, that no senior players would leave the club ahead of the new campaign. Indeed, he had spoken of Mata specifically, suggesting he offered Chelsea options both as a No10 and as a right-winger cutting inside from the flank as "the only left-footed player of that kind at the club". The Spaniard is expected to be offered an extended deal to remain at Stamford Bridge beyond 2016.  United's insistence that Rooney will not be permitted to leave has been complicated by the player's own apparent determination to sever ties with the champions after nine years at Old Trafford. According to sources close to the striker, who has returned from the pre-season tour with a hamstring injury that will render him unavailable until next month, the player was left "angry and confused" by suggestions that he would play second fiddle to Robin van Persie in a forward role under David Moyes next term, an outburst that appeared to pave the way for his departure.  Rooney, who has also been the subject of an inquiry from Arsenal, believes he is at the peak of his career and is unwilling effectively to become a squad player, particularly in a World Cup year. It has since emerged he would still have to lodge an official transfer request to force through any move with United, who would not wish to damage his value by indicating his availability, unmoved in their stance that he is not for sale. Rooney, too, is unwilling to concede any bonuses or monies due on the final two years of his contract by submitting a transfer request.
Heero Yuy
Imagine if Chelsea trolled United with that bid so United trolled them back adding we rejected the 10m + Mata or Luiz
darkman
Luiz is overated. Talented footballer yes but has A LOT to learn. Nowhere near the levels Rio / Vidic reached at the moment

Kompressor
If the intention is to have a "Cb" serving as back up to Carrick again next season, I'd my h rather that "CB" be Luiz than Phil Jones. Plus Ferdinand and Vidic aren't getting any younger and we seem to have a defensive crisis on a yearly basis. Possibility of Kagawa Mata and a rejuvenated and confident Nani in the same team is making me dribble a little bit.

Fighting Weight
 Don't even wanna see Luiz at United. He would be your best defender and top two selected footballer alongside Kagawa   But he's a prick. So no.  less of a prick than rooney  Which to be fair isn't hard
