Manchester United’s move for Toni Kroos boosted after Bayern players disregard his contract intentions

By Sam Peoples at 4:00 am 14/02/2014

Bayern Munich midfielder Toni Kroos‘ contract stand-off has been questioned by captain Philipp Lahm and ex-Bayern midfielder Mehmet Scholl as unrest continues in Bavaria.

The 24-year-old has had well a well documented negotiation stalemate with Bayern as the midfielder feels he is worth more to the club than his current contract.

He has since been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United in the summer in light of these negotiation hiccups but Bayern stalwart Lahm believes that although Kroos is right to consider his options, there is no better place for him than Bayern.

“It is normal that one explores their position and negotiate,” Lahm told Bild.

“If you currently play for Bayern there are few alternatives, if any. It is, in my eyes, an absolute privilege to play here because the team simply has the mentality to win. Many players come to Bavaria. So you have to think carefully about whether you leave a club like this at the moment.”

Ex-midfielder Scholl, who spent 15 years with Bayern, has gone a step further and told Lahm that he is playing a dangerous game by trying to hold Bayern for ransom on an improved contract.

“I think it is not wise for Toni to play poker too much with Bayern,” Scholl said

“This is how it seems at the moment. His current wages are enough for him to have warm food on the table twice a day already.”

Following Kroos‘ angry reaction to being substituted the other week, he was left out of the following two games by Pep Guardiola for ‘tactical reasons’ before coming back into the side for their 5-0 win over Hamburg.

All is not well with Kroos and Bayern. He is at loggerheads with the club over a bigger contract and there is clearly a lot of pressure to make sure that a precedent isn’t set with player demands given the size of the club.

United could well be given the opportunity to sign Kroos as we will be able to match his wage demands and if money is the issue, Kroos could leave Bayern in the summer if they aren’t willing to match his demands.

In other words...GABOS
