Louis van Gaal claims he will not rebuild Manchester United around one superstar signing.

United fans are desperate for van Gaal to win the signature of a world-class star before the transfer window closes in 10 days.

But they are likely to be disappointed because the United boss says he does not believe in focusing on just one individual.

The Dutchman’s credo is to improve the team by improving every individual in it.

“If you don’t know how to get the best out of each talent in your squad, you’re wasting your time,” he said.

“I am constantly asking myself these questions – how do I get the best out of my players? Why is one player giving me more than the other? And how can I influence that as a manager?

“If I want to create a winning team, I have to make sure each individual is trained in the perfect way. So, I spend more time on individual improvement than on team improvement. As the sum of all the individual improvements will define the success rate of the team.

“This is why I am not a great believer in one world-class player in a team. I will never build a team around one world-class player.

“That leads to disaster. What happens when that one player gets injured? It would mean the team will collapse, as they can’t do without him.”

Van Gaal, 63, reveals his managerial philosophy in his book My Vision.

It helps explain why he has not rushed headlong into the transfer market since taking over last month and the remarkable colour-coded system he applies to every player he works with.

He pulled out of possible deals for Toni Kroos, Cesc Fabregas and Thomas Muller, despite months of groundwork by David Moyes.

He gave the thumbs-up to Luke Shaw and Ander Herrera’s transfers – again, after Moyes had scouted the pair – while Marcos Rojo’s £16m capture from Sporting Lisbon is the only signing which is purely down to him.

Van Gaal’s priority has been to assess all his players before deciding how to re-shape United.

He is most interested in their personality and divides his players into three colour groups – blue, green and red.

“A blue player is intellectual and is always looking for structure and security in his job on the pitch,” he explains in My Vision.

“A green player is very emotional, sensitive for different emotions or a different atmosphere in the squad.

"A red player is creative, full of power, will want to work and is always focusing on the future.

"As a manager, I can work towards each category of players.

“When I scout a player, or study a player, I look for TIPS. It stands for technique, imagination (seeing things on the pitch before you receive the ball), personality and speed.

"Over the years, I have realised that the ‘P’ for personality has become more important because of the virtual society we live in.

“What do I do to get more dedication on the job from my players? I confront them with their own work ethic and attitude.

“The players have to fill in questionnaires from time to time. I let them do it on the internet. I teach them to look at themselves as professionals and as a person.

“As a manager, I have found that I am dealing with players who are not able to perform at the level I expect and players who don’t want to perform how I want.

“Both categories of players will be shown the door.”

Man's probably seen his compatriot Rojo sign up and now ready to join suit.

According to a Spanish radio station, Ángel Di María would join United if they met his wage demands.

Fresh reports are tonight emerging linking Manchester United with a move for Real Madrid's Ángel Di María. According to Spanish radio station Cadena Cope (rehashed by Spain-based journalist François David), the Argentine would be happy with a move to Old Trafford, providing the Red Devils met his contract demands.

The reports claim that Di María had an agreement in place with Paris Saint-Germain, though the French club eventually pulled out, claiming Real Madrid wanted more than they were willing to pay. Di María isn't particularly unhappy in Madrid, though he quite fancies the pay rise that he was going to receive in Paris. Now, should United offer the same terms, he'll be happy to move to Old Trafford. Cadena Cope is apparently quite a reliable news source, so this is certainly one to watch.

Woodward needs to hurry up and buy.
