Arsene Wenger will decide this week whether to bid for Christopher Samba or Gary Cahill. The Arsenal manager has publicly acknowledged that his central defence needs strengthening – and Samba and Cahill have been identified as the two main targets.Further question marks have been raised about when Thomas Vermaelen will be fit. He has an Achilles problem while Sebastien Squillaci is also suffering from injury.Wenger has seen his resources stretched to the limit as Arsenal compete on four fronts – the Premier League, the Champions League, the FA Cup – in which they face a replay at Leeds this week – and the Carling Cup, where they meet Ipswich in the second leg of the semi-final at the end of the month.Currently, he has only Johan Djourou and Laurent Koscielny as he first choice centre-backs and badly needs re-enforcements.Cahill has been in impressive form for Bolton this season and managed Owen Coyle has put a £25million price tag on the head of the man who has forced his way into the plans of England manager Fabio Capello this season. If a fee of around £15m can be negotiated, Wenger would be interested.Samba, a Congo international, has said that he would welcome the chance to play at one of the top clubs. He was signed for Blackburn by Mark Hughes for a bargain £500,000 in 2007.He has emerged as one of the most powerful central defenders in the Premier League and at £10m would be well within cash-conscious Wenger’s price range.Read more: http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/news/Transfer-news-Arsenal-will-decide-this-week-whether-to-move-for-Christopher-Samba-or-Gary-Cahill-as-defensive-cover-article674109.html#ixzz1BBnV9zBg
Arsene Wenger is close to signing exciting Southampton winger Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.Liverpool, Chelsea, Spurs – plus both Manchester CITY and UNITED – all want to sign the £10million-rated 17-year-old winger in the January window. But it’s believed Arsenal are now in pole position with the teenager’s father Mark Chamberlain, the former Stoke and England winger, favouring a move to The Emirates for his son.It is believed the Gunners are in the driving seat and may even allow the youngster to stay at St Mary’s until the summer if they do a deal this month.Arsenal are also watching PSV Eindhoven winger Balazs Dzsudzsak, who is rated at £10m.The 24-year-old Hungary international has also caught Liverpool’s eyeRead more: http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/news/Transfer-news-Arsenal-closing-on-winger-wonders-Alex-Oxlade-Chamberlain-and-PSV-s-Balazs-Dzsudzsak-article674299.html#ixzz1BBo8Pmli
ARSENAL have won a £10million chase for Southampton starlet Alex Oxlade- Chamberlain. They have agreed to pay £5m up front for the winger, 17, with a further £5m to follow, based on appearances and success.Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has beaten competition from Manchester United, Tottenham and Liverpool for the son of former England winger Mark Chamberlain, who advised his lad to move to The Emirates.Oxlade- Chamberlain follows another product of the Saints academy to Arsenal. Theo Walcott made a similar move five years ago.The Gunners paid Southampton £12m for Walcott, now 21.Chamberlain’s transfer is expected to be ratified in the transfer window. It remains to be seen whether he will then return to Southampton on loan for the rest of the season.

Bemt for £18m isn't anything to be zooping about JJ.TBH, if Sunderland use that money to invest in a good winger or attacking mid, they'll be a problem. The Gyan/Welbeck partnership is looking promising. Sunderland played much better football sans Darren Bent.Saying that, anyone thinks SAF is letting Welbeck go?

Why lol? Sunderland and Spurs paid £16m for him, sicne then he's become an England international and bagged 25 lol.Obviously the Champions League clubs, Citeh and maybe Liverpool could do more with the money but we're not going to sign Suarez now are we?He's 26, proven pedigree and clearly wants to come here (thus the transfer request). It's fantastic news, I've not been this excited since Collymore... This trumps Dion, Juan Pablo, Olly Mellberg, Laursen and Carew.

As i've heard in a few places now that Macheda has only been sent out on Loan to Italy to find a buyer, i don't think SAF will be getting rid of Welbeck (thank god)Bent is a good signing and a partnership between him and Gabby could be very dangerous, 18m for a striker who tbh i reckon despite his little lean spell at Spurs will gaurentee you goals is not that bad,

Darren Bent is a good signing.Yes the fee is laughable but Villa this season are laughable too.Makes you wonder why O'Neill was pushed out the door...
Money was never gone, our wage to revenue percentage was similar to Pompey's. MON was told he needed to shift the Beye, Shorey, Sidwell, Davies, one of Carew or Heskey types out who were earning like £15m a season between them. Now a few of them are gone Randy releases more funds. We've spent £23m already this window (if this comes off) and Adam and a left back will be pursued too.Go back to the thread when MON went, I said it'd happen... Randy was always the one Villa fans backed, not Martin.

This is a sick signing for VillaIMO this is a step up(you have to remember Villa are one of the biggest teams in England)imagine Bent/Gabby as a front two(surely this transfer you will stop that 4-4-1-1 and Villa will go back to 4-4-2)
