i watched ramsey for years, he was ok - no better than denilson, nothing outstanding until this season

 

his best performances came for the welsh u21 side, let's be honest his form this season has been a real shock

 

this pre-season he came back with a determined attitude, the boy had clearly worked hard technically and physically

 

I saw the same intent from Cleverly two seasons ago in pre-season from when he came on and changed the charity shield game vs city up until kevin davies injured him

 

it's up to him to work hard, fergie etc rated him, he has quality, it's up to him to prove he's a utd player

He cant do what Carrick does, or Kagawa . Cleverly is an odd case. When have you last seen him tackle? Assist? .Hands down he is a very good 1-2 baller and Im a fan of his but its like hes come in a box thats labelled scholes but theres nothing inside.

 

Despite all of this United cannot afford to let go of Cleverly only for him to come back in 3 seasons moving like hes just won the ballon dior. I would be pissed

He may not have been playing as well as he is now overall but he showed moments of brillance before the injury. 2.44 on the below for example

His form has been a shock only becuase the injury seemed to have ruined him like it did Eduardo. Everyone knew he talented which is why we fought Man U for his signature as a 17 year old

 

Ramsay has genuine class which is something that you can't learn. Cleverley doesn't have it. They are in 2 different leagues in terms of talent

No point in comparing the two, Ramsey was a hugely prodigious talent from 16 he was one of the best talents in Britain, Cleverley has never had anywhere near the same level of talent.

U should have watched him at Cardiff. Ramsey before his injury looked like one of the biggest talents to come out these shores, similar to how Barkley looks now.

 

Cleverley was never that good, just a bunch of delusional United fans bigging him up as some type of Spanish maestro because of his lack of balls to actually play incisive passes.

At the start of October Red issue fanzine had an editorial where they seemingly spoke about the month we just had and how bad the results and performances were, how bad the tactics and team selections were and how bleak the outlook for the future was looking.

They weren't talking about this season at all they were talking about 2001.

I was reminded of this this morning and then I've just seen where we were at the end of the first week in December in 2001the simarlatities are interesting. (The reality is we had 1 point less and were in a familiar 9th place....) this is a team 2 years removed from being champions of Europe.

What was happening in 2001? Fergie had decided to retire and announced it and the players started slacking. Once the decision was reversed the players realised that any continuation of the shot they were serving would not bode well for their futures and performances improved.

Being 9th and 4 wins behind the league leaders is not unique to this season. We had stability then as well.

Exactly. So theoretically it should've been easier to maintain a decent position. Back then only Liverpool Arsenal and Leeds should've been beating United everything being equal. Now Arsenal, City, Liverpool, Chelsea, Spurs, Everton and Southampton have got decent teams and can hold it up.

At that time we also had a squad who pretty much everyone else was envious of. Now we have a squad who Arsenal, Liverpool, City, Chelsea and Spurs don't fear....

If one had to be deemed more acceptable it is definitley this season.

Also I'll check the stats but I'm pretty sure that up until this point that season the only contenders we had faced were Leeds,

If I'm right we were due to play Liverpool away (Forlan game) and Arsenal (Phil Neville masterclass where Scholes snd Veron scored) in consecutive weeks. 2 victories that got us back in it.

Back to the point in hand, in 2013 we've played all the best teams in the league, in 2001 we still had to. Considering the relative lack if in depth quality back then ask yourself who we were losing to and what the performances looked like.

This was either the year that Big Sam came to OT with Bolton and Micheal Ricketts looked like R9 with Nolan looking like Zidane. (Might not have been they beat us two years on the trot it's hard to remember which game was which)

Wilshere and Ramsey are definitely 2 midfielders Cleverley should strive to be better than, as currently he just seems happy to have been luckier than Lansbury.

Cleverley has potential to do a lot but he is a victim of the lack of quality and therefore competition in the Midfield. Iron sharpens iron, who's pushing Cleverley within the squad. Slackness and stunted progress was always going to occur, combine this with the fact that he was never a stand out talent.....,

I imagine if the first choice midfielders were Kagawa, Pogba and Carrick, Tom Cleverley would've been pushed harder and his development would've proved to be better. Now he's competing with Anderson who can't play 70 minutes, Fellani who hasn't got going, Jones who isn't a midfielder, Giggs who's days are numbered and Darren Fletcher who's bowels wont co- operate.
