Does that leave enough time to find and tie down a replacement though?

Can't help but think Fergie's comments/lie about the transfer request towards the end of the season has got Rooney's camps backs up and that's why they're dragging their feet about handing in the request.

In an ideal world Rooney could've been privately persuaded by United to hand in a request and make the move earlier in the window replacement or replacements could've been sourced and had a couple of weeks to integrate with the squad during pre-season.

Instead we have this situation rolling on for far longer than is needed. It's hard to see much of a way back now unless Moyes knows hypnosis, Fergie's comments will see that Rooney is not greeted very well during the testimonial and that'd probably prompt the transfer request. Unless Rooney decides to hand one in before that to avoid the needless drama continuing.

History will see to it that Rooney has been an arse and disloyal, Moyes was unable to convince him to stay and further alienated him, whereas as is generally the case the facts are far different than what history tell us. (See Tevez situation for an example of how a story/facts can be changed to suit an agenda)
