i smashed one interview saying that due to the problems with the previous job and travel etc, i saved up and bit the bullet, took a risk of having no employment to then develop myself as a potential employee.

 

had to take the time off to grow proffesionally and personally and that im happy I did it as now i in a much better position to both learn and grow but also provide the highest positive impact on your company that i can.

 

ended with a joke about what a stupid decision it was in a lot of ways and how it could have backfired, got everyone laughing and relaxed the interview

anything you say you've got to be prepared for questions but if you have a blurb all set up, you can give them less space to ask you questions

Voluntary work would of been something you would of mentioned in your cv or job app so they might find it odd if you suddenly brought it up in the interview.

This new guy joined my store end of last year and within 3 months he had me realising even my boss and regional managers/directors are all employees of the company and have to answer to someone. People in big positions think they can take the piss, abuse their power and manage you out the business if they don't like you.

There really shouldn't be any gaps on your CV. Fill them out and get somebody close to you to vouch for reference

 

Also referees are not allowed to say anything bad about you (Law man please confirm) so this is more a formality than anything

Where an employee has not been given the legal gap between shifts consistently for 3 months straight, what action can be taken against the company?

Sounds like a breach of working time directive law. There must be 11 hour gap between shifts. I would ask the employeer for an official record of the shift patterns, and take that straight to ACAS, possibly to start a employment tribunal claim.
