All that is very true, same Arguement could be made for Adnan, "he's the new poster boy"

However hypothetically speaking when players abroad think of Manchester United, the first name they think of is Wayne Rooney. Fans likewise. Media likewise.

He's more valuable symbolicly than he is on the pitch.

Bare this in mind, despite RVP coming in and becoming first choice forward, Carrick being the new cult hero and Kagawa being the far east's version of Beckham. This summer the top 3 shirt sales were RVP, Kagawa and Rooney with Rooney selling more than the other 2. Despite the added fact that it was pretty unclear whether or not he'd be staying.

It would take a lot of money to make selling Roobey make sense financially and status wise.

Before anyone negs this for thinking its a pro Rooney post I'll reiterate I don't like the man and he and his standing within the team, the game and accross Europe embodies a lot of what I despise about the game.

Sometimes I think some people in hear only talk about football in here.

Go out into the big world and canvas oppinion people. Rooney is rated in that just below works class bracket by most people,

Was on a tram going to Gigg Lane earlier in the season and listened to two fans on the way to OT having a debate about Rooney, both of them were making valid points but had to completely differerent opinions. Most United fans still rate him as the best player if imagine, if we played 9/10 of the top European teams tomorrow he's be seen as the biggest threat.....

He's the player the sponsors want to attach his face to their product, he's the symbol that United can still attract and keep the best players in the world.

Somebody once quoted. (Can't remember who but I can imagine Clough or Shankly saying it) "People who think football is only about football know nothing about football"
