The Official Manchester United Thread

As well as discovering the nuggets, the youth team staff had to teach a style of play that was to run through the whole club, from the youngest apprentices to the most senior players. They were educated in the United style.

It was because of that background strategy that the United board, made up of chairman Martin Edwards and directors Sir Bobby Charlton, Maurice Watkins and Michael Edelson, never ever discussed the possibility of sacking Fergie in the late 80s despite poor league results and fans beginning to call for his head.

The youth policy was Fergie’s safety net.

Unfortunately it is understood that Moyes effectively tampered with his own job security by attempting to produce a more athletic next generation with less emphasis on ball skills.

A number of the staff working with the younger players were uneasy about the change and a good few entrenched in Fergie’s ways of developing the academy players wondered if they would get the call to Moyes’ office to discover their P45s on the table.

In the end it was the manager who got the bullet and with concerns over how things were changing on the youth development side, Moyes didn’t have the safety net Fergie had created for himself over a quarter of a century ago when results were not going his way.

Butt is confident that all the players will be keen to see out the final four games of a frustrating 2013/14 campaign on a positive note.

"We've got some amazing players at this club, good lads who care about the club, who are really positive about United and want the best for the club. Saturday is a massive occasion, not only for Ryan, but for the staff, the fans and the players as well because they know that we've underachieved as a club this year.

"The players in that changing room know how good they are. They look round, look left and look right at the players next to them and know that they are very proud, hard-working lads. I'm sure we'll see that on Saturday."

Butt >>> Moyes

" I've given myself a 5 year contract " lol Giggs

Already seems more up for a Saturday kick off than Moyes ever did.

Wouldn't mind Giggs becoming manager because although tactically we are yet to see what he can do, He will always have the respect of the fans , current & incoming players which is more important imo

Mad excited for tommorow

"It's going to be my philosophy. It's going to be a Manchester United philosophy.

"Passion, speed, tempo, be brave, imagination. Work hard but most of all enjoy it. If you enjoy it, you can express yourself more."

From the MUTV interview (Taken from Reddit):

- "Play with speed, play with tempo"
- "The teams looked great all week, very sharp"
- "Proud, happy and a little bit nervous"
- "The proudest moment of my life"
- "We've got great players in that dressing room who are winners, who are used to winning and have that winning mentality."
- "I trust you, go out and enjoy yourselves, go out and attack and score goals"
- "Sir Alex was the first person to call because I wanted advice".
- "I want the fans to enjoy the end of the season".
- "We're Man United, We're playing at Old Trafford, Of course we expect to win".
- "Rafael and Robin still out, everyone else is fit".
- "Great support off the fans, the staff and the players, I'm grateful for that"
- "Scoring my goal a season is way down the list of priorities. A lot of people have brought up subbing myself on for a penalty, but we'll see what happens. I've said all season that it'd be nice, but it's not a huge disappointment if it doesn't happen."
- "I can’t wait for five thirty tomorrow when we walk out at Old Trafford. I know the place will be rocking."

Has Moyes ever actually said "This is Man Utd. We expect to win"

Moyst never insinuated, hinted or suggested that there was ever anything to be confident about

Was always 'try', 'hope' etc

He was always channeling his inner Eeyore or Sad Sack from Raggy Dolls

How would you lot want Hollow to line up saturday?

If he some reason dropped Rooney I would offer him the rest of Moyes 5 year deal

He was saying he wants to play the man utd, said attack, quick tempo, pace, and taking players on and running at them

Surely he won't start Valencia or Young or Fellaini at least

Would like to see Cleverly next to Carrick with the shackles off

Nani and Adnan too
