Rooney isn't the best #9, #10 or winger in the squad. Just because he can 'do a job' in those positions it doesn't mean we should start him ahead of a player who is naturally better in one of those positions because it has a negative effect on the balance of the team.

He's the best forward period.

Do you seriously consider Zaha a better option for the team?

The post you quoted says "it doesn't mean we should start him ahead of a player who is naturally better in one of those positions" so if it came down to picking a right winger and the choice was between Rooney and Zaha I would pick the winger, Zaha.

I was more referrring to your original post. I don't understand how you can call players like Powell and Kagawa great attacking options. They've done nothing

Yes Gattsu, Rooney is a better player than Van Persie

Because the players I mentioned are great attacking options and it's deeper than experience and who has done more in the premiership. It's about looking at their attributes and the requirements of a #9, #10 and winger to figure out who is best suited for thier respective roles. With some of the players I mentioned who arent the finished article I don't wanna see their progress disrupted at the expense of trying to fit Rooney into the team just because of his status in this country.

How can they be great options if they aren't even great players? You can't even label some of them as very good

Rooney isn't playing because of status, he's playing because he's the best player

@ John Doe don't feel sorry, he's not that good of a player.

When has rooney ever won united anything ?

Last season he was on the bench when rvp won united the title

Season before he was united best player as man city won the league

Season before that he was in pheonix when nani and berbs won united the league, then reinstated for the cl final and embaressed by barca

09/10 season was wayne Rooney's best ever season as chelsea won the double and man united won the Carling cup... Prob the only cup he can say I was the main man in this win

That's all the seasons since Ronaldo left

Let's not forget this season in which he is uniteds "best" player is man uniyteds worst season in the prem

It's definitely fair to argue that Rooney doesn't fit into what is United's best 11. (unless he maybe plays on the left)

On the other hand its not being completely sensible to discount his contribution over the years.

you are both right and you are both wrong in some ways, common sense and intelligence lies somewhere in the middle.

Stopped reading after you said Berba and Nani won Utd the league. He started off well that season but tailed off. He didn't even make the squad for the CL final

Guessing Adnan will get a couple weeks off now

Hopefully we see Kagawa, Mata, Rooney in the same line up

Want to see him exposed

See him fail to keep up with the movement, interchanging, fluid, technical football that Kagawa and Mata should be able to play together

Then maybe he will finally stay in the box and leave the creativity to people who are actually good at it

This should spell the end for Valencia and Young, wouldnt be surprised to see Hernandez move on either though

RVP, Rooney, Welbs for one striking spot is enough

Mata, Kagawa, Rooney, Adnan, Nani, Zaha, Welbs is enough for 3 spots behind the striker

Squad is too bloated, looks like we may finally be stepping up to compete with the big boys again (Europe wise)

Now just throw 50 mill at Vidal please Ed
