Labels are out for success and money only. Someone with a healthy buzz will more likely equate to sales than someone they have to actively search for and then spend time and money to grow them.

Cos these people are confused and think its still the early 2000s where talented artists would genuinely be unknown. Now if your a talented artist you most likely will already have a following because of the intenet. The fact that artists can now go into deals with millions of views, and a mixtape release thats done decent means they have more leverage when negotiating a deal, instead of getting ripped of because they are unknown. As long as the artist knows their worth when negotiating then signing a deal can be beneficial.

Also I think some people don't realise that XL is an independent label. I believe he is still counted as an independent artist, thats why he also charted in the Indepedent charts
U just got to look at things logically your average Nines song/video get's 200K views on youtube but the population of the U.K is 64 million so not even 10 million people wanna listen to Nines songs and watch his videos for free on youtube. Nines has released free mixtapes like Gone Till November and these mixtapes haven't even got 1 million downloads. So if not even 5% of the U.K want to even listen to Nines music for free online then he has no chance in hell of ever succeeding in music. Nines is a niche rapper the type of people that buy music can't stand Nines music. Nines music is based on people that are road guys from certain estates that will bump his music MP3s they downloaded and bump it while bunnin weed. Very niche. If Nines was a song writer was artistic this wouldn't be the case. Nines is too boring to everyone outside his core fan base like a @Trap God who is a core fan. Your average person in the U.K couldn't give a shit about Nines music or give a shit about Nines period
Was 200k views a typo? He gets multiple millions on all his videos.
Also if charting at number 4 in the charts with your debut album means you never have a chance in hell of succeeding in music, then you have a weird definition of suceeding in music
The producers say they had experience on other famous programs, such as “The Howard Stern Show,” but were treated by bosses “worse than other employees who were younger and African-American,” the Manhattan Supreme Court suit claims.
Executive Vice President Val Boreland “was always rude, condescending and dismissive towards the [team] . . . Ms. Boreland, however, treated the African-American staff in a much friendlier and respectful manner.”
Execs turned a blind eye to the behavior of “African-American employees who arrived to work intoxicated or hung over,” the suit says.
One production assistant “often came to work late, drunk and slept on the editing floor during work hours,” the suit says. Yet he “suffered no repercussions for this behavior.”
Val Boreland’s brother Anthony Boreland and the assistant director of the show allegedly said that “Caucasians harbored racism against African-Americans.”
“The animosity Mr. Boreland had towards Caucasians was clear,” the suit says.
When producer Todd Baker complained about the lack of punctuality of the show’s guests, production manager Cherisse McKenzie allegedly said “he just did not understand the ‘culture’ of the show’s guests and on-air personalities.”
The team was fired in December 2014 and replaced with inexperienced black employees, the suit claims.
“Racism directed at anyone is unacceptable,” said Matthew Blit, an attorney for the producers.
An attorney for the channel said, “These claims are without merit and have previously been dismissed by the [Equal Employment Opportunity Commission].”
