Because I've spent 2-3 years following the Arab Spring closely, appreciate the complexity of the issue and am interested in furthering the discussion around it. I am anti-propaganda and pro-truth. If the Shabiha are doing fuckery, expose it. Same for the FSA.

Bear in mind people have actually pulled the 'I have it on good information that the Saudis are gonna invade..." card so far in this thread.

The PR campaign for this war has defo failed if the Daily Mail comments section is anything to go by:

Check this re-hashed gem of an article, and then check the best rated comments. Been like this for the past few months, big change from a year ago.

For someone that has followed the arab spring for a couple of years i can't believe you'd even ask such a question. The f*cking syrian armed forces are carrying out massacres what do you think some hired goons would do, did you forget what happened with the Mubarak goons. I'm not saying the FSA are angels but Assad in power simply can't continue.

What's your actual point, do you want Assad to remain?

I'd say everything u see on the news other than obvious huge events are there specifically to shape public opinion

Events may happen naturally but their decision to repeatedly report on it and spin it to suit agendas is pretty in ur face

From relatively minor occurrences like that dead polish baby n the internet bullying suicide to the set up of world war 3

They angle it everytime n don't shut the fuck up until its an accepted obvious truth

Depressing as fuck, meanwhile wer too busy renting suits out for nye n saving for our summer holiday to question our provided opinions

Na I'm messing but still I think uv been out of uni too long the 'real world' has its claws in u

Me too, freedom is a must

Anyone still following this conflict ?

As ISIS retreats and villages and towns fall "become liberated" dozens by the day to proxies of USA and Turkey it seems there is a massive race between the 2 countries to reach Aleppo first and snatch as much territory before the other and in some cases slyly from eachother before telling the proxies to calm down and play nice... but whats waiting in Aleppo is Russia who have become the alpha nation in Syria out of the 100s of nations fighting in there.... It remains to be seen if the Turkish backed rebels who are winning the villages via huge military backing from Turkey will be left to fend for themselves when in range of russians(which seems most likely) thus turning Erdogan Face as he completes the alignment with Russia or if the USA will dump the kurds the moment they reach Aleppo if they get there before the Turkish backed rebels which is also there most likely source of action this Turning USA full heel as the worlds beloved kurds get spread out to thin get torn apart by Assad and his troops of Non Syrian Arab Army while up north near the Turkish border the FSA(turkish backed rebels) sweep up all the towns the kurds "liberated" and Turkey "resettles" its 3millions plus refugees....

Or the US proxy and Turkish Proxy ignore the orders of its puppet masters and end up doing more then there daily skirmishes and go full on each other leaving Russia and Assad to wipe out the rebels in the south that USA and Turkey have both disowned ?

Shit is complicated with allies and enemeys switching roles from town to town and ISIS dying off it might just end up with Assad and Russia in full control again.

Sidenote the reporting of this war in British press compared to whats happening they might as well be talking about a completely different warzone ignore the usual bias and agenda driven articles they just concentrate and talk about such irrelevant stuff going on/not going on and the Kerry/Boris stuff lol

At least 58 people, including 11 children, died in a suspected gas attack in Syria’s northwestern Idlib province, local sources reported on Tuesday.

According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), people choked or fainted after the attack, while some were seen foaming at the mouth.

The SOHR said it had received the reports from medics on the ground in the town of Khan Sheikhoun.

Hours later, a small field hospital in the region was struck and destroyed, according to a civil defence worker in the area.

The Syrian National Coalition (SNC), the main opposition group, said planes from President Bashar al Assad’s military carried out the airstrikes.

It was not immediately clear if the deaths had been caused by the chemical weapons or injuries sustained in the airstrikes.

Videos purporting to show the aftermath circulated on social media.

One showed the bodies of several young children being covered with a blanket, while another showed men lifting a body into the back of a truck.

In a number of videos, medics could be seen helping people who appeared to have breathing difficulties.

Rescue workers were pictured hosing down children.

More than 60 people were reportedly injured in the airstrikes.

“At 18 cases had been taken to a hospital in Sarmin town. Because of the number of wounded, they have been distributed around in rural Idlib,” local media activist Mohammed Hassoun said.

“They were unconscious, they had seizures and when oxygen was administered, they bled from the nose and mouth.”

Russia’s defence ministry said it had not carried out any airstrikes in the area.

The Syrian government did not immediately comment on the allegations, but last week said claims the government was using chemical weapons were “devoid of truth”.

The SNC called for an emergency session of the UN Security Council, blaming the airstrikes on the “regime of the criminal Bashar”.

It urged the UN to “open an immediate investigation and take the necessary measures to ensure the officials, perpetrators and supporters are held accountable”.

“Failure to do so will be understood as a message of blessing to the regime for its actions,” it added.

France later also said that it wanted an emergency Security Council meeting.

“The perpetrators must be held accountable. We need to address this issue at the Security Council, as soon as possible,” Alexis Lamek, Deputy Permanent Representative of France to the UN, said.

British Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson said: “This bears all the hallmarks of an attack by the regime, which has repeatedly used chemical weapons.”

“If this is shown to be the work of the regime, it is further evidence of the atrocities perpetrated against the Syrian people over six years of appalling conflict,” Johnson said.

Idlib province is almost entirely controlled by the Syrian opposition and is home to 900,000 people displaced from other areas by the 6-year-old war.
