Diaby back in full training

Arsene Wenger has pleaded with France manager Didier Deschamps not to jeopardise the long-term fitness of Abou Diaby with a needless international call-up.

Diaby is fit at the moment after further struggles with injury this season but Wenger may rest him from tonight’s game at home to Liverpool because he suspects the 26-year-old midfielder still needs plenty of rest and recovery between games.

'It’s too early,' said the Arsenal manager when asked if Diaby might play for France against Germany next week.

'I would prefer him not to be called up. I might not play him against Liverpool because he is not ready to repeat games. I think it’s too early.'

Wenger slammed the French FA earlier this season when they failed to heed his warnings about Diaby, who returned at the start of the season in terrific form after a long absence.

Against Arsenal’s wishes Deschamps picked Diaby for France’s World Cup qualifiers in September.

The Club can confirm that Abou Diaby injured his left knee in training on Wednesday and subsequent scans have confirmed that he has torn his anterior cruciate ligament.

Following consultations with specialists, Abou will undergo surgery to repair the injury in the near future. Abou is expected to be out for around eight to nine months.

The thoughts and best wishes from everyone at Arsenal are with Abou, and we all wish him a successful recovery.

Arsenal career done. He'll be free to talk to foreign clubs before he kicks ball again.

"Abou was one of the players I used at the start of the season and then he had to stop because of repetitive injuries. Maybe he was attracted by England and the money there. This probably did not force him to make all the necessary efforts to come back to his best level with us."

Former Auxerre manager Jacques Santini following the sale of Diaby.

Arsenal’s Abou Diaby has told Football.fr that he hopes to be back running within one month as the midfielder continues to recover from surgery on his anterior knee ligament.

It is doubtful, however, that the player, who is recovering in France, will be able to play any competitive football before 2014.

Diaby said "I’m on schedule, even if my condition fluctuates. Sometimes I’m ahead, sometimes behind, but I should be able to start to run in four weeks."

Arsenal midfielder Abou Diaby says he is hoping to resume running again in a few weeks as he continues his recovery from a serious knee injury.

The 27-year-old is unlikely to feature again for the Gunners until early 2014 after he ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament in training back in March.

It is the latest in a long line of injuries which have threatened to wreck the France international’s career.

But Diaby insists he is feeling positive about his recovery and hopes to come back stronger from his latest setback.

“I’ve got rid of my crutches,” he said in L’Equipe. “Now I have to walk.”

He added: “I’ll start running again in a few weeks. I want to take my time to ensure everything is good.”

Diaby, who made 11 Premier League appearances for Arsenal last season, is working on his fitness at the Clairefontaine academy just outside Paris.

Lets not forgot the black Zidane (lol) in all this Ozil love in...

Arsenal midfielder Abou Diaby is confident he will recapture his best form once he recovers from his latest injury problem.

Diaby is working his way back to fitness after suffering a cruciate knee ligament injury last March.

The injury was a major blow for Diaby as last season he started to reproduce some of his best performances for Arsenal after seeing his progress blighted by a series of injuries over the last couple of years.

The 27-year-old is determined to return to action at some point this season and he admits coping with his latest injury mentally was difficult.

"I'm always confident because I know my ability and I know that as soon as I'm fit I can play at a good level," Diaby told the club's official website. "I always keep those references in my mind and I work every day to reach that level.

"It was very frustrating because I did a lot of work to become fully fit last season and I wanted to play a full season.

"Unfortunately, two injuries kept me away from the pitch. Emotionally it wasn't good because you think in a bad way but I had the support of my friends, family and the people at the club and that gave me a lot of hope.

"I'm working back to my best level and beyond. I want to catch the train and bring something to the team. That's my objective."
